Why use a computer

What are you PCs used for? For some ODD reason I thought that most computers here are used for games but that opinion is changing. What do you use you computer for? Mine is a Dell Inspiron 530 used for internet and small games

I use a laptop and I don't game with it.

It's basically a $600 internet appliance, if our internet is down, I don't turn on the laptop.

I use my computer for just about everything.

That includes porn, games, learning/research, porn, communication, games, work, and moar porn.
not necessarily in that order.

😛 😀

but seriously, if it can be done through computers, I try and do it.

I use my cell phone. Computer is for Lil rudeguy to game and probably surf porn on. I only use it to flash roms

With how many of my games are internet-connected (or based), I do find my PC to be relatively lifeless and boring without an internet connection.

It's rare our internet (from the ISP) is down, yet power is still on... but I usually look for other things to do at that point.

Don't laugh but the majority of my gaming is on the cell phone and Kindle Fire tablet.

It's also rare our internet it down but it has happened.

I have a computer that can play games decently but I've come to the conclusion that I am no longer even remotely interested in games. I basically just use it to surf the net. I want to get an iPad, and when I do I can see this thing not being used much at all.

My computer is used for every bit of non-physical entertainment in my life. It's used to communicate, read, and get news. It's also used for its own sake to tinker with, and tweak.

same. both my PCs connect to my TV and monitor. i dont have a tv feed, so i get everything through the net. dvd/blu ray (and hd-dvd) are played through my PCs (can't be bothered to turn on the ps3 or xbox), netflix via my PC. gaming and music also.

this whole "post PC era" is nothing of the sort. a lot will still have a PC, just that those who do nothing more than browse the net and consume content only can use tablets

Lol old people

1. Coding, projects, and other work I do simply requires a computer and specialized software.
2. Everyone I know now communicates via internet. Not having a computer would effectively cut most of my communications.
3. About 1/3 of everything I buy nowadays is online. That's where the best deals usually are.
4. Games.
5. Porn.
6. Movies
7. TV
8. Carefree accumulation of knolwedge
9. Neffing

The list goes on. Imagine you stopped eating bread altogether. That's the impact being computer-less would have on my life. 😛

For me and judging by the development trends, it seems there is something about sitting down at a desk with a large sized screen, and a full sized keyboard that it seems no tablet, gaming console, or cell phone can replace.

Take the big two MMOs right now of World of Warcraft and Star Wars The Old Republic. Both are developed only for computers. There is even discussions on SWTOR forums why it's not very viable for consoles. There is a reason why companies who make GPUs for computers are doing well. People use their computers still.

Tablets and cell phones are great when I'm out and about. I can access the internet and whatnot very easily, but the keyboards are a joke. They just don't replace a full sized keyboard.

Game consoles are great too but they're meant for gaming and only for games that don't need a large amount of different inputs like many MMOs. Sure you can add a keyboard to a console but guess what? Now you have a computer.

Computers are not going away any time soon.

I use mine for pretty much everything. Coding, email, web surfing, research, banking, gaming, I even use it to control my furnace. Well it's a separate server for that, but I use the computer to access the web interface. I can also use my tablet to adjust the heat. It's like science fiction!

I play relatively recent games and watch movies on mine. I need a good graphics card, good processor, and lots of storage to make it work.
