i go to price watch cuz i am buying a 1ghz t-bird, i see these american prices, and after i add shipping convert to canadian and add the taxes that i would pay, it is still over $100 cheaper than buying from inside canada??? So i think that i am getting a deal!, WRONG, almost all of the places with good prices wont even bother with canada. So i emailed a canadian online retailer and asked them if they were going to drop their price anytime soon ($445CAN) and they said maybe after christmas. I guess it sucks to be canadian if you liek to get cheap hardawre, eh?
(that "eh?" was only added to support the stereotype, i dont actually talk like that)

My canadian friends showed me the light not too long ago. I always thought that after the conversion, the prices were pretty close. That's hardly the case.

You should try this place. It is the cheapest place that I could find in all of canada. Right now they have a 1GHz Tbird for 420*, which INCLUDES tax!!!
that would come to about $365* without tax. The shipping would probably be like 5* bux or so.
They don't have a very big collection of hardware, but the prices are simply killer!!!

*Note, these are CANADIAN dollars!!!

All I hear is canadians complaining about taxes. Why don't they stop whining and do something about it. Take up arms and revolt. Our news in the US is so boring lately with Al GOre trying to sue for the presidency. A civil war in canada would be great for the 6 oclock news.

We have way more inportant things to revolt about than pc prices.

Beer prices are CRAZY!!!

32$ for a 24 is just insane.🙁

Have to agree with Budman, beer prices are bloody insane!!

Do you really need the 1Gig though except that it's a nice round number? You can get a 850MHz. T-Bird for only $250 Can.

A civil war in canada would be great for the 6 oclock news.

No... I don't think anyone in the US would care. 🙂

well first off, i am happy to pay the extra bit for CANADIAN beer, i feel for you americans having to drink that donkey piss, and secondly someone told me that they dont charge customs on some computer parts? is that true

Pyro, have you ever bought from that place before?(http://companyontheweb.com/wayview/)...they dont even take credit cards or anything...they just seem a little unprofessional, the describe there computer cases as having 3 "big bays" and 2 "small bays", i just thought that was funny.i think i will be stuck ordering from ncix, i might just get a 900mhz

Bigshooter:

I for one don't think taxes are too high in Canada. It all depends on what kind of society you want to live in and whether you think it is worth paying for it. People who constantly complain about Canadian taxes have boners for the USA and blinders on. The fact is that when you compare Canada to other industrialized nations (i.e., Nordic countries, Germany, UK, France, Japan) our taxes are actually very low.

With respect to cheap hardware it is simply supply and demand. Canada is 1/10th the size of the USA - that makes for a lot less demand and higher prices. Having said this, some prices are quite good. Here in Toronto I have recently paid $540 for a Samsung 900NF (about $360USD), $280 with no tax for a P3 700 guaranteed to o/c to 933 (about $165 USD with tax conversion) and $189 for a 64Mb Radeon (about $120 USD). Those are excellent prices even by USA standards.

Cheers,
Napalm

<< well first off, i am happy to pay the extra bit for CANADIAN beer >>

Yeah, well, as an American, I rather pay my extra bit for EUROPEAN beer. Domestic beer is piss water.

part of the reason taxes are high, is because we have more social programs that the States does not have. for example, Health care..

sorry to go OT.. but the only reason i'd even attempt to like canada.... mass broadband, after that.... USA all the way🙂

Damn, i meant this thread to be about the difference in hardware prices not social programs, health care, education, beer and patriotism....(but canada does whoop ass)

Ha just wait till we become the dominite country! HAHAHAHA! what would really be cool is both countrys would merge to form one hell of a powerfull country. Of course they wouldn't keep the cheap little name of Unit states. They would use Canada!! Hahaha JK.

nickburns, where are you looking from? Most places here in Calgary sell stuff very close to the exchange rate conversion.
