I was wondering this...the forums used to be in UBB, right? Why did they switch to Fusetalk? Is it more capable of handling large amounts of people? I just always thought UBB was better...maybe I'm just wrong :)

Anand:
"Cause I want it that way....."

haha SmiZ

yes they were switched because at the time there was no better forum system and ubb was crashing every week or so. so zuni whipped up fusetalk.

IIRC, UBB require less resources initially but one you start getting to the scale of AnandForums, the resources required goes up expnentially until everything grinds to a halt. FuseTalk needs a bit more overhead initially but scales up a lot better. Plus UBB looks like crap. FuseTalk is nicer and more streamlined. A big thumbs up to Zuni.

BTW, how's your baby?

FuseTalk also does supports HTML which is disabled here because of the possible security concerns. When AnandTech does a major upgrade, the chatroom feature might be implemented. Ask konichiwa, about 10 of us tried it after the first Fusetalk upgrade and we brought the forum to it's knees. :) I'll still give Zuni crap about that one.

ubb supports html as well, Windogg. As well as a load of other things that fusetalk doesn't (i.e. there are forums but no category organization, that's unheard of)

There are catagories... Check AGN. They use the catagory option. Anand has disabled some features just because of the community size and security (html, times viewed for threads, images...).

If I recall correctly, UBB takes a big performance crap once it hits about 10,000 users. Well, we are well over 4x that amount right now.

Take a look at other forums - there are times when this forum has more ACTIVE users than other boards have REGISTERED users. This doesn't even include the number of lurkers out there requesting pages along with the logged in users.
