Why the number of fan blade are mostly odd numbers?

I imagine it has to do with something about vibration, being asymetric and all. I should know this, let me go tear up my engineering degree.

I would imagine a standing wave of long wavelengths (like those common to "vibrational noise") would be easier to create in a design which has the blades at exactly opposite positions rather than with some deflection... but I hate the complex physics stuff.
