Why the HELL was a Candian singing God Bless America?

Let's get this straight, Celine Dion is not good looking. She is a walking popcicle stick. She has a great voice though 🙂

Heh. The only point you guys have to counter my argument is that she is good looking.

Does every citizen of every country know their national anthems by heart? Does this make them not citizens

1) Maybe because some "Americans" don't even know what the national anthem of the USA is.
2) She knows the words to God Bless America--do you?
3) It displays unity and support of the USA by other countries' citizens! This is very important when the USA is trying to wage war in other parts of the world.

It would have been awesome if an Iraqi had sung the song!

BTW--it's spelled "Canadian"

I did not say that it does not make them citizens 😉

You have a point: If the national anthem is important to the citizen, then the citizen would know what the anthem is, and what the words are. If the citizen doesn't care, that's his prerogative. I made it a point to learn the Star Spangled Banner when I moved to the USA because it was important to me.

And you have an extremely myopic view of the world. Think about North America, Central America, and South America. Just because you happen to live in the United States of America doesn't make you the only American. So what if she's Canadian. While I don't particularly like her music, at least she didn't sing it like Rosanne Barr at the World Series. Go troll somewhere else. Have a nice day.

For those arguing South American countries, Mexico, and Canada are part of God Bless America, I would beg to differ.

The song just sounded better saying America and not USA or United States. We all know America and US are interchangable these days.

Read my first post. "Interchangeable" doesn't mean "Correct". It is understood, but geographically that is INCORRECT... we all belong to America, the continent. period. Prove me wrong.

Obviously you are correct about the geography.

I want to hear Chileans and Argentines singing Gold Bless America. Tjey are not going to. Why is that?

How about because the leanguage there is Spanish??? 😀

I understand that you take pride in calling the USA "America" and I agree that it makes sense, even just for phonetics (try saying "USAenian...."). That is fine and we understand it. What I absolutely HATE is when a retarded-brainwashed-TV watcher-only posts cr@p like "Why is a Canadian singing god bless America if she is not american..." it is plainly wrong. Don't you agree.??? It is OK that you think about yourself as Americans and feel proud of it, it is part of patrotism, nothing wrong about it. But please don't forget that America is more than just the USA. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Yep.

yes, you are. go back to your hole and die and stop making stupid threads like this you fvcking product of the american patriotism bandwagon.

btw, celine released 'god bless america' as a single almost a year ago, where were you then?

I'm outraged every time I see Celine Dion. I think her singing is annoying and I can't stand to hear her speak. I don't give a crap if someone from Canada or France sings God Bless America, but I don't like it when Celine Dion shows up on my TV.

Amen flavio, I could not have said it better.

Did anyone see her pre-show interview with Santana? I hope he found his rainbows.

Relax, she's not really Canadian, she's from Quebec.

Canada should be the 51st state.

After we conquer and subdue the Iraqis, should we make it a commonwealth like Puerto Rico?

😀 Just kiddin'

We Canadians should hang her for treason. Seriously. Fvckin' bitch.

Hehe, that would be a Life Sentence with possibility for parole in 25, but we could have her tagged as a Dangerous Offender.

Naw...forget it. She should become an American then they can take the blame for her awful singing.

Actually. That is not true. Here they are:

She has a phenominal voice (even though I am not a big fan of her music either).
She is entitled to the same freedom of speech enjoyed by all people in America (whether or not they are American).
She was asked by the people who organized the Super Bowl.
There are lots of Americans who wanted to see her sing it.
Nationalities other than American are allowed to sing songs with America in the title.

and ....

Rosanne Barr was busy.

How was that 🙂

Alright - I'm Canadian and I've read both viewpoints. I'm going to express my feelings, and my opinion. Please don't ask me to back whatever I say up, if you don't like it you can write me a nasty PM or email.

1) Celine is alright, I don't listen to her. I haven't heard her in at least a year or two (a full song anyway) but she's person just like you or I. As such she shouldn't be entitled NOT to sing anything to anyone that we also couldn't possibly do. We're all humans at the essence and some imaginary line between borders shouldn't cause so much nonsense.

2) She was asked to. She got paid. I know people that will do much worse for money. I bet you would sing it not knowing the words if you were paid enough.

3) I'm kinda offended that even though we're 'next door neighbours' there's still so much resentment between two countries that are so much in harmony. Seems like after so long, with all the trading between our two countries and relations people would soften up a bit. I know the first post in this thread is a small, small, small(minded) amount of people representing both the United States and Canada, but it's another issue - in life, it's not gonna matter who sings what or what background they are. Deal with the more important things in your life and move on.

4) We're all people, let's treat our fellow members like we're all people and not some stupid fuvktards.

-Simon
