Why the hatred against talking on cell phones?

There's just something annoying about someone sitting/standing right next to you talking to no one. Plus, people tend to be louder talking on a cell than normally.

Me either.

And people that gab on the phone while DRIVING should get a BIG FAT TICKET!

people like you should be send to jail for life

Brutuskend is correct, and you, sir, are an idiot. Cell phone use while driving has been proven in numerous studies to cause more accidents. And states are already starting to regulate their use while driving. NY was the first with their "no handheld" cellphone use allowed law which ignore the fact that it didn't matter if the phone was held or was a hands free phone. Their law was a boost to the cell phone industry as it increased the sales of peripheral devices for the cell phones.

I don't have a problem with it, except for:

A) People who let their loud ass ringer continue to go off while deciding wether to answer the call or not. Shut your fvcking ringer off, asswipe
B) People who talk about private stuff in the middle of a public place without regards to others, and then get mad when people look at him oddly or when the people tell them to shut the hell up

Actually, their use doesn't bother me.... what bothers me is that approximately 50% of people talking on a cell phone aren't intelligent enough to do two things at the same time. Talking on the cell phone seems to max out their brain's capacity.

Begin rant:

If I'm away from a phone, I'm unavailable. I'm amazed by the fact that people feel like they need to be constantly in touch and if they aren't they're going to miss something. Yes, this applies mostly to the youth. I was interviewing a kid for a job - his cell phone rang and he pulled it out and answered it. Needless to say he didn't get the job. The sheer rudeness (or stupidity) of some people is amazing. People who talk on cell phones in restaurants, movie theaters, doctor's offices, any place in public where you need to interact with other people, and especially while driving have no consideration for the people around them. I don't know what the rules are in schools today, but if I was a teacher or administrator I think I'd confiscate a cell phone if I saw one. The sight of some 12 year old with a phone (in school or on the street), makes me sick. Stop blabbing with your friends and do something constructive. My wife says our son should have one when he starts going out by himself so we can reach him - I'm on the fence about this. Maybe if there was a way that he could only use it to call us and nobody else. Severe? Maybe. But I see kids on cell phones like I see kids in front of the tube - just tuning out everything and everybody around them. I mean, what is so damned important anyway?

I myself have a Nextel which is paid for by my employer. I'm free to use it anytime, but I don't. I use it when I have to at work and it gets shut off when I leave. My wife has a Verizon which is for emergencies. We got it for her to carry in case her car breaks down or something, and because we are expecting a child. She hardly ever uses it otherwise.

Ok, rant over.

Sparked by the thread on "are there too many phones"....what's the big deal if someone is talking on a cell phone? Ok, I understand being pissed that a phone goes off at a movie, or in class, or somewhere else quiet, but if you're on a loud bus, or on a street, or in the mall, or basically anywhere that conversation is perfectly acceptable, what is wrong with someone talking on the phone? Would you be annoying if you saw two people walking down the street talking? Or sitting on the bus talking? Of course not....so how is it different if they are talking on a cell phone? That's right, it isn't, so why do some of you get so pissy about it?
There are a lot of idiots who forget commen sense when they start yapping away on their cell phones. Several times while driving through a parking lot some dumb girl has walked right into the street without as much as a glance......I wouldn't be so pissed if it was in plain sight but they'll walk right out into the street between cars without looking.....I'd like to run them over 😀

Do you hate fat people in thong bikinis? Do you hate purple spiked hair? Do you hate plaid pants with striped shirts? It isn't a matter of hatred, it's a matter of annoying stupidity. How ever did people get along without these things ten years ago? Now everybody has to call their friends to tell them they're currently wiping their ass and such. It's just fvcking STUPID! :disgust:

This is a great statement. All of you people that bitch about driving and talking on a cell phone at the same time are morons. Who are you to tell me that I can't drive and yack at the same time? I am more than capable of doing both. It takes nothing away from my driving. However, it IS a problem for some people. Some people can't even walk and talk at the same time. My freedom's shouldn't be restricted just to cater to the lowest skilled people.

Yes, cell phone usage does cause more accidents, but eating McDonalds while driving causes more accidents than cell phones. That law is f**** joke and I find it to be complete bullshit. New York state has too many laws for its own goddamn good. Since they outlawed talkin on your phone while driving and just this week the smoking law went into effect, and now i hear they are outlawing breathing in a public place...

EDIT: what the hell are you trying to say in this sentance? "NY was the first with their "no handheld" cellphone use allowed law which ignore the fact that it didn't matter if the phone was held or was a hands free phone." you contradict what you say in the next line "NY was the first with their "no handheld" cellphone use allowed law which ignore the fact that it didn't matter if the phone was held or was a hands free phone." Here in NYS, you cannot have the phone in a close proximity to your ear whether or not the phone is on... however you can dial, text message, and talk with an earbud/headset/handsfree... so in reality, the law here only states you cannot hold the phone to your ear but does not take out the distraction of actually talkin on the phone. a very poorly written law that is perhaps well intentioned but is unwarrented

Yep, I don't know why some people are so f'ing stupid when it comes to common courtesy. We were watching a video on the Holocaust in one of my classes last Friday, and someone's cell phone went off. The ring was bad enough, but rather than turning it off she actually answered it and began speaking. Just about everyone in the class gave her a dirty look and began 'shh'ing her, so she finally took it outside. :disgust:

Oh, and if anyone was wondering, from what I could hear the phone call was not about anything important.

Like stated - it's the people that become fscking oblivious to anything and everything around them when they put that phone up to their ear. Whether that be driving, walking, or pushing a grocery cart down the isle.

I want to know what people did before the cell phone became so ubiquitous. Business deals went on all the time without the phone ringing at the golf course, store check out lane, or while driving..

Hmmm... Let's see. What did people do before cars became popular? What did people do before airplanes? What did people do before the internet?

Stupid argument, sorry.... The cell phone is a tool, and it can be used or abused.

Thats the way this country works, laws are always passed for the almighty 'tards.

So, what would you like speed limits to be? I certainly can handle at least twice what the current limits are. Maybe you'll have to rethink that, eh? The laws and regulations ARE in place, and HAVE to be in place, just because of the fvcktards we share the roads with.

I've never seen anyone in a cell phone drive at a normal following distance for an extended period of time or match the speed of traffic or even exceed it. Notice how cell phone drivers always match the speed of the car in front of them but at an abnormally far following distance? Notice how when traffic speeds up I almost never see them speed up with traffic. Not to mention that 50% are swerving. My friends are always amazed when we're driving and we come up behind someone and I immediately go watch..they're on a cell phone and I'm right every single time.

Last I looked driving was a privledge and not a freedom. No where does it say that you have a right to drive anywhere or anything. Sure you can own all the cars you want, but without a license granted you by the state you live in you won't be driving anywhere in them, also your privledge to drive can be revoked at anytime unlike a freedom. When your so called freedom infringes on the safety of others, you are dangerous beyond reproach. You may not realize that you are dangerous, but you are.

I think you forget to tell everyone how much you hated tobacco companies.

Those were just examples. I actually like plaid pants with striped shirts!

Ah, but that's why there are laws. To protect us from ourselves. They made a law restricting cell phone usage while driving just like they made a law against drunken driving. There are plenty of drunks out there that are pissed they might be caught DUI and think they are just fine to drive. Fortunately for us there are some smart people out there (most of the time), making up laws to protect us from our stupid selves.

And how do you propose they police the people who can't drive and talk at the same time and keep from nailing your overconfidant ass while they're at it? What's your solution? Just not have any laws and let everybody run amok?

Because these old foggies hate technology.

"Back in my day, we had to work our way to through life. We had to earn every thing and never once complained. Todays kids are spoiled, they get everything and anything. This whole country is too PC. And blah blah blah blah."

The guarantees of the First Amendment might not apply in a classroom.
You know, how speeding, DWI, and license plate laws don't apply to you.
I would run this by my Mommy's Attorney before I made any more statements.
Then you could plead The 5th.
