And what makes you qualified to make that judgement?

This is a bit elitest on your part. Who died and made you John Wayne?

Using an ordinary firearm is not rocket science

Actually, it is a science. People underestimate the power of a weapon until they shoot themself or someone else. I don't have a need for a gun, and all the people I've known who wanted to own one did not have any legitimate reason aside from childish or redneck endeavors.

Guns are like e-penises. Everyone who gets one, can't wait for a chance to use it.

That is all... Hope you all liked the video

Why? Who is going to administer them? What are the requirements to obtain a permit?

You do realize that there are background checks for purchasing a gun and that convicted felons are not allowed to legally buy guns right?

That is the worst generalization I've ever read. I've owned guns for 15 years and somehow I've managed to not shoot myself with any of them.

Shooting sports are great fun. You should try it sometime instead of dismissing it as some "redneck only" endeavor.

Since we are starting with the personal attacks already you freaking commie, why don't you grow a pair and not automatically be afraid of things you don't understand.

Guns are tools, nothing more. Like most other tools they require your respect and care for the consequences of misusing them. Get careless and bad things can happen to you or others.

I consider self defense, sport, and the free exercise of a constitutional right entirely legitimate reasons for ownership as do most reasonable people.

some people have made a good point here

criminals will get guns regardless of background checks and what not... do you think they care if they have to get it legally

Me too!! They are far more common and kill about 3x as many people has people doing stupid things with firearms.

It is way higher than 3x.

My county does not have a registaration law, even if they did I would not register any weapon i have.

Do you know why the second ammendment was put there? Our founding fathers must be rolling in their graves at the "conservative' Bush agenda. (read "Patriot" act - the most unpatriotic law ever written)

I think most of the last 150 years would have them rather upset, not just the last 5.

I have always wondered what the FF would do if they were alive today. What would they say over the last 20 years? If we had men like those would be in a new civil war?

i just find it sad all those men that died fighting in wars to make this country that there sacrifice is just forgotten and flushed down the toielet.

Idiots shooting themselves do not bother me and should not bother you - consider it passive eugenics.

What should bother us is other idiots that intend to harm us and the need we have to defend us against those idiots.

P&N? There is nothing in this thread about hating the current administration, therefore this thread in no way belongs in P&N and is most decidedly off topic.

If you don't like a thread, why don't you just leave instead of crapping it?

Now, back off topic...

I know literally hundreds of people that own guns, most of them more then one, and I have not yet met a single person that has accidentally shot himself or someone else. I have not even met anyone that knows someone that has accidentally shot himself or someone else. That easily puts us into the category of thousands of people that have managed to own guns many years without shooting anything they did not intend to shoot.
There are millions of gun owners in the US. If the general public really was as irresponsible as you seem to think they are then we would already be seeing the mass chaos you are worried about.

CA requires you to register what they deem to be "assault" weapons...I own one gun on their list and I had to send in a card with my name and address on it along with the weapon type and serial number. I think there was a $10 "registration fee" I had to pay as well. Wow, I feel so much safer now...fvcking morons.

First off, you haven't been here long enough to know what goes in which thread.

Secondly, if you don't think a thread debating gun laws belongs in P&N, you're lying to yourself.

I'm fine with leaving it here. We've discussed news stories here before and gun threads and debates have been discussed here numerous times.

I say leave it in OT.

Like any good netizen I have been lurking these forums for several years now. I just now have the time and inclination to actually start posting.

Secondly, if you don't think a thread debating gun laws belongs in P&N, you're lying to yourself.

I am saying that Off Topic is "A public meeting place, a Pub, if you will... A place for computer junkies to boldly post Off Topic... Things you might want to tell everyone... Or things you wouldn''t say to anyone else. " and that gun control is not on topic for a computer junkies forum.
I am also saying, a little more loudly, that P&N has become a very hostile envirement for anything other then Bush bashing. Go look for yourself, almost every thread gets hijacked. Intelligent people therefore do what they have always done, go and discuss it at the pub ;)
