how on earth do you pronounce world for it to sound like 2 syllables?

Like anyone else. I have no accent.

neither do I, and I've never heard world sounding like it has 2 syllables, I can't even imagine an accent giving it a second syllable.

To me, it sounds like "were-old"

to me it sounds like wurld.

the same reason that the british call planes "the old crate". or people from boston develped thier speach impediment for the letter o, or people from new orleans seem to no longer use the letter r in anything they say, or people who speak ebonix can't realize that it's not an actual language, or etc. etc. etc. etc.

The definition of the word "Syllable".........

A unit of spoken language consisting of a single uninterrupted sound formed by a vowel, diphthong, or syllabic consonant alone, or by any of these sounds preceded, followed, or surrounded by one or more consonants.

People may not like to learn that they are ignorant of the english language but that doesnt change the rules, world is two syllables by definition because of the syllabic consonant surrounded by one or more consonants, END OF DISCUSSION!

Well what about THIS:
"1. An elementary sound, or a combination of elementary sounds, uttered together, or with a single effort or impulse of the voice, and constituting a word or a part of a word. In other terms, it is a vowel or a diphtong, either by itself or flanked by one or more consonants, the whole produced by a single impulse or utterance. One of the liquids, l, m, n, may fill the place of a vowel in a syllable."
It sounds to me like world can have one or two syllables, depending on the pronunciation, whether you use a single or double impulse of the voice. So as were-old or wurld, I think it would depend on the amount of enunciation one wished to use.
