Why talk a suicidal person out of jumping?

Let's try to examine the forces involved to see why this is done. First, the value of human life is supreme in most ethical traditions, especially the popular one of humanism. This states that every life is precious and people should be helped. Thus, if a person thinks about committing suicide, efforts will be made to prevent this. Essentially, this is the idea behind it. Another possible driving force is that people are conforming to a social role, to duty, or to an empathetic drive to prevent the occurence. Another possibility is to alleviate sheer boredom. My question is, "Why NOT talk a suicidal person out of jumping?

Cheers ! :)

Because they got families and friends.
Because they are mentally ill and need help. Mental illness is the leading cause of suicide. These people most likely wouldn't be killing themselves if they got mental health help and got a grip on things.
By your logic, if someone is dying of anything why help them?
There is nothing funny or witty about suicide.
