RAM is so cheap, not sure why they're doing that. It's not like it's "Superleet Apple RAM". It's the same stuff everyone uses. Same with storage. A 6+ with 128gb of storage is $950. Or you could get a Note 4 in a couple weeks with an SD slot for $750. It's a mystery.

RAM is super cheap, but even if adding an extra GB costs Apple $1, when you multiply it out by the millions and millions of units sold that becomes an enormous amount of cash Apple gets to stick in the bank. As long as people aren't demanding more RAM (by simply not buying the new phone) there is little incentive to add it. It isn't like you can go buy someone else's iOS phone that has 3GB of RAM in it. The difference with Android is that there is competition not only between platforms but also within the platform.

I think that is why android fans are so angry. They just cannot understand that most apple people don't care that their phone has only 1GB of ram. Or that you could get a card to stick in your phone to increase the memory. Or that Apple is doing this intentionally.

It's like arguing with a dog about why bottled water is better than toilet water. The dog doesn't care...toilet water works for them.

I have an apple phone because I don't want to have to mess with downloading a bootrom or running cyanogen or whatever the latest hot mod is. I like the appstore and the walled off nature of apple. To me, the toilet water tastes good. I think it is combination of laziness and willful ignorance of the apple user that pisses android people off so much.

Poor people can only afford Android phones, and the poor are usually less educated. There is also a correlation with Android users having smaller than average genitals, and strong homosexual tendencies. Not so hard to understand why they are haters.

Apple does not seem to need to buy good press (and of course they have moments of bad press).

They apparently cut you off if you report too much on their foibles.

As for my issue with Apple

I'd say it was the "i'm an Apple I'm a PC" ads. Maybe I just don't like Justin Long. /shrug

Apple has better out of the box experiences. However, I don't mind spending my time tweaking a computer and to a lesser extent a smartphone.

If it wasn't for the aforementioned ads and some of the more ardent defenders in the face of "bendghazi", and the news story from Germany I wouldn't have replied.

*e2a*

It is pretty BS that Apple is putting 1GB of RAM in a flagship phone in 2014.
very true. It also perhaps gimps the phone for a future version of iOS a couple of versions down the road. so perhaps it won't be as snappy on a hypothetical iOS 11 as it would have been with 2 gigs of RAM

Another criticism is why only 16 gigs of storage for the base model? At least put in 24 gigs if they're not willing to foot the cost of 32 gigs. 16 gigs is pretty low if you don't have an option to expand storage.

Some of them. I just think it's funny. And I was actually considering a 6+ for a while, until I saw a Note 4 up close. And I spend a lot of time in the boonies, so lots of storage is a must for me for when I'm off the network.

Never been called a f*g for preferring Coke over Pepsi :)

hahaha I remember many moons ago at a family dinner the aunt (by marriage) that was hosting had Pepsi instead of Coke, and an uncle picks up a can, looks at it and says loudly "What is this shit???". She could always give better then she received, and she said something like "it'll taste better after I shove it up your ass". Holidays are fun.

Because money. Apple made a real dick move by keeping the base 16GB, because they knew that people would fork over that extra $100 just to not have only 16GB. It bothers me that Apple would do this considering how much money they already make, but it bothers me even more that there wasn't more of an uproar from iPhone fans, they just took it (or as some Apple loving tech sites spun it, "64GB is only $100 more!")

Ha, I've never, ever seen a Blackberry or Windows phone zealot. Sure, there are people who prefer lumia to apple, but I've never seen anyone resort to bitter name calling, or using boring and dated "isheep," "you're holding it wrong," taunts.

Not anymore, but you used to see them all over.

It is more akin to the old apple desktop users. Once upon a time, windows ruled everywhere and the only people who had apples were strange academic types who never set foot in the real world or artsy folks who needed advanced color and print capabilities.

"Real men" used PCs. In business settings, everyone used PCs. In software shops, real developers used PCs, the eccentric/cranky types ran unix/linux or at least pretended they did with cygwin, except for the graphic artist or designer - they used macs. In leisure pursuits, intelligent men played PC games, the unwashed masses used cheap consoles plugged into TVs, except for the lone oddball who played Marathon on the mac (presumably while sipping on wine and snacking on exotic, organic cheeses).

Since absolutely nothing was designed with macs in mind (due to an abysmal market share), these people had all sorts of difficulties - their machines couldn't connect to the LAN properly, they couldn't use the printers, they couldn't see the network shares, they needed things sent in non-standard (non-microsoft) formats, they couldn't read a proper floppy, their shoes were too tight, they couldn't get the fancy HOTAS controls to work, they only had one mouse button, software was only ported their way as an afterthought, etc... They were always either complaining about the above, begging for help for the above, or smugly claimed that they didn't any of the above anyway.

But deep down inside, they knew. They knew they were smarter, better, prettier than everyone else. They knew their platform was superior in every way. Why wouldn't all those meanies see it and acknowledge it? Obviously, everyone else was too dumb to see it, or not sophisticated enough to understand it.

They felt like an oppressed minority, everyone else thought of them as an oppressed minority who wanted special rights (we need our own special driver disk for the printer!).

Dare to put a pc in front of one (uhm sorry all we issue here are PCs), and they would bitch forever about crappy 'windoze' or 'winders'.

This is largely where a number of the positive and negative apple user stereotypes originated.

Fast forward to the present, in most environments you'll see pretty solid representation of apple computers. Even real developers use them - in fact, as often as not, I now find instructions and technical tuts using OSX examples that have to be adapted to Windows machines! (1990s self mind blown).

"Normals" are using them. Things don't seem so snarky.

The younger generation doesn't even understand some of the old code words, the PC way of describing someone with an alternative lifestyle as, "let's just say he uses a mac." "MacinTrash" means nothing to them.

Anyway, back to the point, Android is winning now, but they suffered a number of years as being considered second best, having no accessories built for their devices, having all mobile apps ported to their platform as an afterthought months after the hype died down for the iOS version, etc...

But deep down inside, they knew. They knew they were smarter, better, prettier than everyone else. They knew their platform was superior in every way. Why wouldn't all those meanies see it and acknowledge it? Obviously, everyone else was too dumb to see it, or not sophisticated enough to understand it.

They felt like an oppressed minority, they were perceived as a whiny, minority who wanted special rights (iTunes should work with my droid!)...

And the beat goes on.

I don't care what people want to use. Use blackberry, Windows Mobile, etc. I don't care.

What I care about is that due to Apples popularity I HAVE TO deal with their devices in my immediate family. Them providing poor hardware value ends up harming those family members, like my uncle who's iPad 3 runs pretty rough ever since the iOS 7 update or my sister with the retina Macbook pro that feels laggy.

I care whenever any company calling itself a technology company (instead of say a fashion company) puts out substandard product that people I care about want. I have the same issue with Bose or Beats- if you have substandard tech don't pretend you lead the market.

Sad part is Apple used to provide amazing value. The iPad 2 was an Amazing SoC for the time. The iPhone 4 brought in high res screens which changed everything. And ever since then Apple has lagged behind the industry, sometimes in ways that harm the customer (aka a lack of ram).

I guess that the only problem that I have with Apple only putting 1 GB of RAM in their Smartphones is that it holds back innovation in the whole industry.

App developers seem to write for the lowest common denominator when they write multi-platform applications, so it puts an artificial 1 GB memory cap on the Android (or even Windows Mobile) versions of their app as well. Otherwise, you'll have Apple fans complaining that some snazzy wizbang feature on the Android version that requires 2 GB of memory isn't available on their platform as well.

That was brilliant move by Apple. They basically get extra $100 for every iPhone. You add on another $100 surcharge for the larger 6+ and that's $200 extra Apple receives. Tack on near 100% profit margin for $100 AppleCare insurance Apple customers love to buy for their iPhones and it's extra $300. All pretty much pure profit. Simply brilliant. Apple's gross margin is getting another bump.

It's brilliant from the perspective of someone who makes money off of Apple's success, but as a consumer I don't like it one bit.

Meanwhile the customer doesn't really know or care because it is built into the horrendous monthly payment that they have to lease a cell phone for two years because they are too broke and stupid to afford it up front.

fanboyism is a story as old as time.

Use what you like and don't worry about what someone else thinks, there are strengths and weaknesses to each side in every argument.

People like to take sides. It's almost like being a sports fan, except you are emotionally invested in a company or ecosystem instead of a team. This isn't even new for technology, as Intel vs AMD or Nvidia vs ATI/AMD has been going on for more than a decade, and I'm sure other brand loyalty wars before that.

You tend to be more fair if you actually try everything and use things across as many platforms and devices as you can. It's not worth the anger and effort to be anything other than pragmatic, and in the end the people that do lose their cool aren't doing themselves any favors.

Just be glad you didn't have to go through the Android-Apple Holy Wars of 2047. Not good times. :p

Asking why a fan would behave irrationally is a pointless question, since brand loyalty contains no rational element.
