native americans made sucky slaves, i guess too defiant too.

black people? african nations were selling em at a bargain price apparently. too hard to pass up a hotdeal!

Anyone like italian food? I just had a mean ass lasagna. Lotsa meat and so much cheese. Oh man! Need some cherry pepsi and fried chicken now!

In the racial hierarchy that existed in the European/New World at that time, Africans were considered to be "better slaves" than Aboriginal Americans.

My guess is that if you take a person, and put them in an unfamiliar environment, they'd do what you want them to a lot more willingly than if you were an outsider and tried to enslave a local. They'd be pretty belligerant.

we have a winner!

But they needed to battle the natives anyways. Why buy slaves from thousands of miles away, when you could just enslave the natives yourself?
They didn't have to battle anyone to get slaves in Africa, the slave trade already existed there. Also, did they not teach you in school about the profitable triangular trade routes between Europe, America, and Africa that was established in that time? The slave trade was a crucial aspect of it.

Substitute the word "white" there with any other ethnicity and you would probably be banned, I bet.

The first american slaves were the native americans. These, not used to hard labor, and the new diseases, were wiped out. So they had to get slaves from another location, Africa.

Europeans also thought africans were more resistant to "hard labor" than the "lazy indians".

Half of a slave ship dying in trip was still considered very profitable.

Will try to post links soon.

Africans were being sold into slavery well before any major colinization of America. Also disease killed a large amount of Native Americans, whereas Africans were more resistant to them. It may have also been easier to think of Africans as sub human than Indians because of color. There's a lot more to it though with so many books you can read on the topic.

Contrary to what most people think about the "slave trade" the reason blacks were used is because the traders could go to africa and purchse slaves from the african kings. It was and still is practice in african nations to enslave captured enemies. this is how the whole thing started. BLACKS enslaving BLACKS. The Eurpoeans just saw an existing system and used it.

And i think slavery is bad, but if slavery didn't exist in colonial US we would never have become the nation we are now.

It's all because of "eurocentrism". Europeans always think they are number 1. Black slaves came from Africa, a non-european continent (I think), so they beleived it was okay to take and sell blacks as slaves.

They did enslave native americans... the problem was that the natives kept dying all the time from disease. Africans had already been enslaved and in contact with europeans for a while so they were pretty immune to europeans diseases, which the natvies were not.

Exactly. There was a lot of Native American slavery, but African slavery just turned out to be better. This disease reason (mostly smallpox) and the reason someone mentioned about it being easier to control someone if they aren't anywhere close to home are two of the most important reasons.

This article is a pretty accurate portrayal of what happened, and why it switched.

There was a Spanish priest named Bartolome de las Casas who was one of the chief supporters of native americans. He was known as the "defender of the Indians", and wanted to end Native American slavery. He ironically suggested African slaves instead because they wouldn't be so susceptible to diseases. His campaigns led to the Spanish granting a license to import 4000 African slaves into the new world.

I suppose that would be true. However, the world we live in whites are on top, and continue to make it so.

I don't understand why white people feel so "burdened" because they are have to be so PC, while others don't. It pales in comparison to other races have gone through. Suck it up, be the better man.
