Why SHOULDN'T I get a Note 10.1? [UPDATED: Got it]

I haven't had much time to mess with it, so far it's been great. Build seems really good (thankfully). My only gripe is the non-standard cable. I have quite a few micro-usb cables around, but only one of these apple knock off samsung connectors.
I'll benchmark it, root it, jellybean it, and benchmark it again soon and post the results. I had about an hour to use photoshop touch this evening so I tried learning the ins and outs with a pic that my little kids will like.

Thanks for your help in my decision guys.

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with this tablet. My wife's sister bought our family an iPad 2 for Christmas, I hate Apple (on the record now) and have decided on the Note 10.1 for my trade-in. This is mainly due to the Wacom digitizer.
All of that aside, does anyone have any reason NOT to get the Note? The best answer would be that Samsung is about to release a new one with A15 in a month or so, but all answers are welcome :) My biggest disappointment is the really low res screen.
Thanks guys.

Shame the Note 10.1 came out in August with such a low resolution screen.

I can't imagine why anyone would consider the Note 10.1.

Nexus 10 with the MUCH better screen, better SoC, better build quality, better feel in hand, and even a lower price. A pen can't possibly be that important.

Do you hate Apple the company or their products? I ask because Android tablets don't have the same app selection as iOS. If the tablet is just for you, then the Nexus 10 should be fine, otherwise a Kindle Fire HD if its going to be a "family" tablet. I see no point in recommending any 10" tablet with a low res screen, and it doesn't really matter if a tablet has a Cortex A15 or A53 if you have no worthwhile apps to run on it. Don't mindlessly chase specs, it does you no good in the end.

Price varies. Not sure what anyone is seeing.

The Note has actual storage room and better software (assuming the US wifi version officially has the backported Note 2 tweaks by now, though you can flash a ROM based on the international wifi firmware). KLP may change the balance, but multi-window is pretty f'in big on a tablet.

Using a pen is not the same as using a digitizer. What other tablets have a wacom digitizer? I am looking to upgrade from the my galaxy tab 2 7".

The note 10.1 is a good tablet. The reason not to get it is you can get similar (some would argue superior) tablets for less price. None of the other tablets to my understanding have a wacom digitzer.

Sony's xperia's tablet 16gb has the infared transmitter which the note has and is about 350 instead of 500. Tegra 3 with 1gb of ram, no hdmi.

Nexus 10 which was mentioned above. Cortex A15, 2gb of ram, best screen on android, will get future updates from google in a speed manner. Rumor has it Android 5 will bring dual app side by side. 400 for less storage, 500 for more.

ASUS Transformer 300 or 700. Tegra 3 with 1gb of ram. 700 has 1920x1200 screen. TF300 goes for 300 to 350 depending on storage. TF700 is more like 450.

If your returning the iPad then is a gift card or store credit a option? Could always wait it out for something better if in no hurry for a tablet at this time.

Yes, a pressure sensitive pen can be that important, in fact I won't buy a tablet without one. Of course being an artist what I need in a tablet is a bit different from most people.

Are there any android apps that support the digitizer properly? Reviews of this say NO apart from the built in Samsung stuff, which makes sense because why would app devs bother with catering to a single device?

IMO if the pen/digitizer is that important to the OP I'd look at a Windows based tablet.

The digitizer is paramount, I plan on using it for speed painting when I'm not at home at my workstation. I hate apple as a company, I'm not interested in ever having iTunes on my computer, besides ipads don't have the digitizer.
Build quality is a good concern however, I didn't even consider that the note might be sub-par.
As far as the software, adobe makes Photoshop for the note, and that's the only software I need. My kids of course will play angry birds and other similar freebies.
@kenmitch, I can just refund it and sit on the money, but I would only do this if a product was on the horizon. Do have you heard of any new 10 inchers? Things seem kinda quiet right now.
Looks like if the build isn't very good I might just get a couple nexus 7's for the kids and wait for a new 10.1 inch.

If the digitizer is that important then go for the Note 10.1 and handle it with care...

I have no definite information but it will probably be at least 3 months probably more like 6 months before we see an update to the note 10.1. The note 10.1 came out 5 months ago. Furthermore if the note 10.1 is updated it would probably use a cortex a15 processor and we have seen very little devices uses these chips.

That said if you are waiting to see new technology you probably should wait until after CES and that means not making a purchase until January 12th since CES ends the 11th. Maybe someone else besides Samsung will come out with a wacom using android tablet. Samsung has not announced the galaxy tab or note at the previous events instead preferring a summer timeframe for release date (June 2011 for Tab 10.1, May 2012 for Tab 2 10.1, Aug for Note 10.1)

No, if the digitizer is that important don't bother with Android at all and look into a Windows tablet. Seriously... they aren't supported well enough on Android if it's that important. There's no proper palm rejection like there should be making drawing/writing a PITA.

I would consider a Windows setup, but this isn't something I NEED, it's a gift that I'm trying to make the best of so I don't want to add a bunch of money on the exchange. The Wacom packing windows tablets I see are all uber powerful and cost $1000 or more.
I have to say that you are the first person I have heard mention poor palm rejection. I thought non-pen interaction was totally disabled when the pen was removed from it's dock?

I'm going by the reviews which mention only the Samsung pack-in software had working palm rejection. The photoshop app (at the time of the writing) for example did not. I don't know if that's changed.

FWIW, my wife loves the Note 10.1. She uses it mostly to create notes and presentations for her class while she is sitting on the couch. It helps a lot to be able to dual screen. She can have a browser up and the software she is creating notes in, and she can copy/paste stuff. It is well worth it for us. However, the screen resolution doesn't bother us. If you want faster and better screen, go with something else. For us, the usability can't be matched right now. She has an iPad(her class uses them, so she has one of her own) and it does not do what the Note does as easily.

I haven't read any of the reviews on it, so I cannot comment on any issues different sites bring up, cause we must not use the tablet in a way that finds those issues.

Nice pic. :)

I wouldn't mind getting a tablet with a digitizer (not that I can draw...), but I'm looking to get a decent Win 8 Pro one.

The Note 10.1 looks good, though, and I wouldn't say no if someone wanted to give me one. :D
