Why should the golfer foot this bill?

It's just common courtesy to fix something you've broken, even if you didn't mean to. He should pay for it.

I think they were joking about sending him the bill, tho.

There's always risk involved, and whoever owns the equipment should carry insurance if it is a high value item to them. It's not like the photog is going to give the golfers part of his payment because they were great subjects for his work.

Yes, they should carry insurance on it. A camera like that could be broken by weather, something kicked up out of the lawnmower, whatever.

But we all know how insurance works: you file a claim, and your rates go up. It's up to the owner of the camera to decide whether to file the claim, let him pay the deductible, let him replace the camera, or split the cost with him - whatever.

Accidents happen, and always will. When you're involved in one, you try to make it right, even if you're not at fault.
 
He should pay for it because he obviously did it on purpose...either that, or he's just a shitty golfer who can't control his balls...😛
 
Camera should have never been there. Everyone knows that fescue grabs the hosel causing a dramatic pull. Might as well go to the driving range and put the camera on a tripod 10' in front of an active stall.

lol...be my guest. There's no way anyone expects him to pay for the camera.
 
So you think he's responsible for the bill because an ESPN reporter happened to say so during filming?
 
if that was during regulation play i'm sure he's pissed as that would cost distance and screw up what he was trying to do i'm sure

It was probably some kind of filter in front of the lens; if it were the lens itself, it would have stopped recording an image after that.
 
Photographers and their equipment have insurance for this very reason. If it was done as an accident, his insurance will cover it. If it was done on purpose, like him breaking the camera because he didn't want his picture taken, then that's a different story.
 
The cameraman should have moved the camera out of the way. He was not on a fixed stand or anything so it would have been pretty simple to just move...

Exactly, anyone who's ever tried to hit a ball out of tall grass like that knows anything can happen, the grass grabs the hosel before contact and twists it before contact. I've hit 2 houses, a condo, a convenience store and 1 car, been hit in the face by an errant drive (one one hop, he did yell fore), nature of the beast...
