A) You could download the next episode(s) online because they showed them in other parts of the world first.

-Since it failed does this mean the ratings for all pats of the world failed or just the ratings in the U.S? I would be curious to see Europe's ratings.

B) They play them back-to-back. You could choose to watch it at 9P.M or at 11P.M. Causing the ratings to be mixed. Like tonight I am watching it at 11P.M rather than 9P.M.

C) And finally the writters decided to make it into a comedy rather than an action-space show.

Of course I could be wrong, so share your opinions :)

wrong. it didnt fail, it succeeded for 10 wonderful years! I'm still not ruling out an 11th season, maybe not with scifi but with some other company.

Production costs, loss off Richard Dean Anderson and the actors from Farscape kind of make it suck.

It didn't fail. I would say that the novelty wore off. You really have to know the show from the beginning in order to follow the later eps.

I believe it failed at an 11th season for lack of quality storyline. instead of ultimately building up to a final conclusion they instead try to stretch it out even further with the inclusion of the Ori. plus the lost of Anderson didn't help either.

10 season is a very long time for a television series. especially for on that is avaliable only on cable.

I believe gunsmoke is the longest running show at 20 years. But then again back in the 50s to 70s there wasn't that much on television to choose from.

Current long time shows have also slowly decline. the Simpsons going down the drain. How long can the kids stay young yet have ever present day thing happen in their world.

law and order has seen their ratings decline also. Though it has a chance of surviving for a long time since crimes happen every day and they sometimes borrow stuff from real life events.

The show didn't fail since like others pointed out, 10 seasons is a very long time for a science fiction show. However, if you mean failed to retain its audience within the last season then yeah it did fail but not neccessarily for the reasons you listed. It started "failing" once RDA left the show and the goauld were defeated. That was pretty much the end of the SG-1 saga and they should've renamed the series once the Farscape actors and a new general came into the picture along with the Ori story. If they had created a spin-off show I bet it would've lasted longer.

10 years is long for ANY show. Considering how many thousands of shows there have been over the years, and the number that hit 10 years is probably under 100, I'd say it succeeded wonderfully.

Yeah, I agree the series was a huge success, nothing failed. I for one will be sad to see it go, my only wish is that all the the SG-1 fans will finally get to see the Furlings before they can the series.

What you think is killing the show is what caused me to start watching it.

You are misguided on this point. SG1 has ALWAYS been funny.
That means it's managed to be popular for 10 seasons with that mix, which means the comedy element is not a problem at all.

one reason why it is difficult for sg-1 to continue, and only one reason, is that finding new audiances is hard when the backstory is soooo big

I meant fail as in it being canceled ... not a failure as a whole.

But I have to say.. tonight's SG-1 was good :)

1. Carter never got naked.

And nobody wants to see that now....

Which is why the ratings steadily declined as her expiration date was approaching :(

WTF?
Am I the only one who thinks she still looks as good as ever?

Yes.

She looks outstanding FOR HER AGE. But she's definitely showing more than a little pearness and her face is filling out in all the wrong places.

Those things aren't bad for someone who isn't 19 anymore, but as good as ever? no.

EDIT: And would I still hit it? Yes.
