It cracks me up to hear Rush Limbaugh denounce McCain while promoting Romney.

Then it occurred to me there might be more to the story. What do you know...

Clear Channel, the company that pays Rush Limbaugh millions of dollars and owns his contract, merged in 2006 with Bain Capital Partners, LLC.

Guess who founded Bain Capital Partners? Mitt Romney.

No wonder Rush (and other Clear Channel artists like Glen Beck) are pushing Romney all the time. They probably get a sales commission.

Interesting, but I doubt that has anything to do with it.

It is not so much that Rush loves Romney as he dislikes McCain.

Rush has never promoted Romney. So there goes that theory.

He may not have, as he really doesn't endorse anyone, but his constant hit jobs on McCain is steering his listeners in that general direction.

He constantly slams McCain and Huckabee. Hmmm.....gee...wonder who that means he is supporting? He even went so far today as to say a McCain/Huckabee ticket would be a nitemare.

I mean....he has called McCain a traitor and Huckabee a kook.

and of course there is this

"I think the one candidate of the three still out there on our side that matter (and, actually, it's just two, because Huckabee doesn't, in terms of a chance to win) in saying who more closely embodies all three legs of this conservative stool, you'd have to say that it's Mitt Romney. There's actually no choice in the matter. It certainly isn't Senator McCain. " - Rush Limbaugh

He is Mitt's lackey and gofer boy, Mitt's the only candidate that he hasn't had ill words of. McCain not being a cookie cutter Karl Rove is making him more of an attractive candidate to Republicans with half at least half a brain...

Rush is completely irrelevant along with most of these other conservative blowhards on the radio. They bloviate and bloviate all day about how McCain isn't conservative and yet he's clearly going to be the nominee. Rush basically has it in for him but obviously American voters could care less. Guess what, people aren't nearly as extreme as Rush or these other guys are, and that's thankfully where I see both D and R parties headed; the middle.

Of course, Rush announces this conflict of interest whenever he talks about McCain and Romney.

Right?

Actually, Rush just wants Hillary in. He has fantasies about a president wearing a bra and panties (like he does). :D

But this is not new. He's been bashing McCain for YEARS. At least as far back as the 2000 primaries. Maybe longer.

It will be very interesting to see what happens if McCain gets the GOP nomination. Up until now, the interests of the GOP, Rush Limbaugh, and the Fox network have been almost 100% identical.

And now Limbaugh has basically painted himself into a corner. The ego maniac will have a hard time reversing himself and will sound totally phony if he tries to discover the hidden virtues of McCain he so obviously missed. Rush can turn on his guns on the dems and say McCain looks brighter in comparison, but his pre-existing attack on McCain will still poison the soup for McCain in the general election. And Limbaugh and the Fox network may be later viewed by the GOP as a prime reason McCain lost the general election.

Basically putting Limbaugh and Fox in the Ralph Nader position. Hated by his previous friends as a spoiler for their more mainstream candidate and hated by his enemies still.

Alienate everyone seldom works. Especially when the entities alienated control licensing and the listening audience gets bombarded with various critics blaming their support of Limbaugh and Fox as a factor in the demise of the GOP. Fox especially skates on thin ice.

Pitt bulls who only attack enemies may be tolerated by some, pitt bulls who attack everyone indiscriminately generally get destroyed.

Good thread, good return on the criticisms of your claims, I think it makes perfect sense.

Yes, 1 quote out of hundreds of hours of airtime talking about the candidates proves his point! Rush is a shill for Romney! Let me get my tin foil hat!

As Corbett does denial with---Yes, 1 quote out of hundreds of hours of airtime talking about the candidates proves his point! Rush is a shill for Romney! Let me get my tin foil hat!

Limbaugh has quite a few hours spent bad mouthing McCain. One might be able to argue that one quote is cherry picked but its far more than just that one quote. Rush already demonstrated his increasing irrelevance with his enthusiastic touting of Fred Thompson, but even Rush could not ignite any voter support for Thompson.

And for what its worth, McCain has now reached out to his critics and Dole has even written an open letter to Rush telling him to STFU regarding demonizing McCain. And if Dole takes that step, its hard to argue that the GOP thinks Limbaugh antagonism to McCain is limited to isolated incidents. The fact is that Rush must either reverse himself on McCain bad mouthing or his position will stand.

It's a fair question to ask. I certainly haven't heard anything about Rush loving Romney, just that he hates McCain and Huckabee.

Rush doesnt support any candidate yet. He never endorses any candidate until the general election.
