Why Religious People Are Stupid and Atheists Are Smart

I will, with a short and elegant explanation, settle this question once and for all.

Atheists read thousands of books to even START to contemplate the answers to some of the most important philosophical, cosmological, and existential questions. They process tons of information, tons of opinions, and reach conclusions on their own. This is the sign of an open and sharp mind. Skepticism is the most significant foundation of the atheist's mind.

In stark contrast to this, religious people read a SINGLE book and take everything said in that book as true. THEY HAVE TO. IF THEY DOUBT GOD'S WORD, EVEN A SINGLE WORD, THEY ARE HEADED STRAIGHT FOR HELL. An open minded religious person is a contradiction in terms. One can either be open minded, or religious, but not both. He who doubts (what passes as) God's word cannot call himself religious. A religious person must take the entirety of his holy book as true. This is the great thing about religion. It lets you get away with being an ignorant, dumb, unthinking schmuck. AND IT LETS YOU BE PROUD OF YOURSELF FOR BEING AN IGNORANT, DUMB, UNTHINKING SCHMUCK.

I agree with what you say, although I would have been a little more diplomatic if I had said it.

EDIT: Although I think agnostics are the smartest; they dont pretend to know what everyone else thinks they know.
 
I can't decide anymore... I thought Jerboy was the most annoying person on ATOT, but voodooguy is quickly catching up. I think voodooguy actually surpassed Jerboy in terms of stupidity.

In the second paragraph of my first post, I do not attack any specific person's character, I simply reveal religious people as a group to be the unthinking schmucks that they are.

If you are religious, you can always stop being religious and start thinking for yourself. Hope is not lost.

An atheist doesn't have to be smart. Atheism is a lack of a belief in a higher power. You don't have to read anything to be an atheist. Babies are born atheist. My chair is an atheist. That is, they have a nonbelief in god(s). No intelligence required. A theist on the other hand, must be at least as intelligent enough to understand the concept of a God.
 
I know an 8 year old that says she used to be an atheist, and now she's an agnostic. Somehow I doubt that she has read 1000 books. voodooguy, I'm absolutely certain that there are some brilliant atheists and agnostics. No question. But I'm also equally certain that there are brilliant theists in the world as well.
