Why rebate?

Anyone know why companies so ethastic on rebate? It's really unconvenient for customers. For me, just always avoid rebate because it's too complicated and sometimes the rebate check just gone.

Quite simply, the attractive after-rebate price enitces many people to buy a product that they otherwise would not have, because they probably don't need that product in the first place. In reality, the majority of people who buy rebated products either don't bother, or forget to submit the rebate in a timely and proper manner. I think less than 25% of the customers actually submit the rebate, so all the uncliamed rebate becomes profit. It's a very effective tactic in stimulating sales.

Not only people forget to send the rebate form, but also they forget about what they sent, rebate periods being anywhere from 2 months to 4 months. I once shopped at a CompUSA and sent out 5 rebates, and got only 1 check and I don't even remember what the other 4 were. It's a total scam and I never buy anything with mail-in rebate. I'd rather shop @eBay.

your basically giving the company a loan that they pay back in 5-8weeks... Well for those few that actually fill them out.

Then again im pretty sure at least 99% of us on ATOT hot deals send our rebates in.

I periodically forget to send the damn things in.
I found a $100 coupon in my drawer the other day.
ouch!!
My olevia /syntax lcd tv check took 8 months to get to me.

My favorite though is when i found a 4 month old check, which i forgot to deposit, which was no good by then..

I'll be the first to admit that I am a rebate junkie. In order to maximize the success rate, I keep in a folder a record of all my rebate submissions (item/amount/date, etc) as well as a copy of the documents. If the check doesn't arrive after the waiting period, I contact the rebate center and resubmit, if necessary. Out of over a hundred of rebates, my success rate is over 95%--the failure being my own fault of insufficient paper work or missing the deadline.

I don't even know what "ethastic" is, let alone why companies like it.
That is very unsensitive of you to point out his spelling errors. 😉

I'm getting unpatient of all this crap!! 😀

Do like what they do in RI and CT, eliminate rebates and force merchants to give them at the register. Tell you local politicians to support these laws.

RLY? i mean i work at CT, so if i see a, say, CompUSA deal that has rebate online or in NY, I can go up there and get the post-rebate price? or would they simply not do rebates at all?
