Why oh why can I not sleep!

Argh! Insomnia sucks. Over the past five years, I think I have averaged a whopping 2-3 hours of sleep. Doesn't matter if I exercise, lay down for hours, stop drinking any caffeinated beverages. Anything. I just lay in bed, staring at the ceiling and wondering why the heck my mind will not shut off.

I'm giving it till Christmas. If my sleep pattern hasn't rectified itself by then, I'm going in for a sleep study.

I cannot imagine myself without sleep. I'd be ready to off myself. Then again, I've never been in your spot.

My friend has insomnia and smokes weed for it (illegally). I can also back him up when I say that it can definitely knock you out, especially in the coming down period. Not always the most convenient thing to get and have, but it can work.

Dude if I was getting 2-3 hours of sleep for the past 5 years, I'd have went for a sleep study like 4 years ago. If exercise during the day, good eating habits, etc don't truly help, you definitely need some help.

Some people really respond well to OTC sleep meds like Diphenhydramine or doxylamine succinate. That's what I use (and/or some beers) if I need help to sleep but I don't have any type of insomnia.

Yeah weed can help too. Don't expect to be able to sleep while ripped but after 3-6 hours you can usually go right to sleep. But having to get involved with illegal shit might not be a good idea if there's other methods to take.

You must anxious about not getting any sleep. Or anxious about something. Thats what usually prevents me from getting to sleep. When I just say F it, thats when I go to sleep.

Could be. My insomnia started back in law school (which means it has been 7 years, not 5). I worked full time during the day and went to law school at night. As a resullt, I didn;t get home from school until 10PM most nights, and then I was up reading until 2AM after that. Seems my body never readjusted to a normal schedule.

Have you seen a doctor about it?

On a couple of occassions, actually. Both times the doctors encouraged me to make lifestyle changes. Nothing abnormal was detected in my bloodwork or in a physical exam. I've had a Head CT in the last 2 years (unrelated), and no issues there. I personally think it might be stress (though I don't have any of the other classic stress related symptoms) or a wonked out circadian rhythm.

Weed is not an option. I've never done it, never wanted to, and I'm not going to start now. The main reason I haven't gone for a sleep study yet is because until recently, the lack of sleep has not seemed to have affected my ability to function. I was not tired during the day (except when I first wake up), I could concenentrate, etc. But lately, my memory and ability to concentrate has gone to complete shit. I can't focus on anything!

Economic theory should serve the same purpose, and be more useful if he manages to stay awake :^D

Actually tried reading Kantian theory a while back as a sleep aid. It was dense and extremely tough to get through, but it did not have the desired effect.

In HS i used to get anxious, and I would just think the problem through or w/e and then I could be calm and sleep
