hey guys

most computer systems we buy or build use processors build by Intel or AMD. lots of motherboard manufacturers build mobos for those processors. how come they don't sell motherboards to build comptuers using ultrasparc or alpha processors? how come we can't custom make those? is it related to patents?

thanks

It's about Supply and Demand , not to mention Costs as there are not many Home Users that are willing to buy and put together Workstation PC's and shell out that kind of Money. I believe Abit's about to release a MoBo with ultrasparc chips for an Intel Workstation...still yet a Sun 1.2GHz runs close to $4k and they SunBlade 2000 Mobo can be found per request from Authorized Dealers, Rigs can easily run a Modest $40K US and that's just for starters. I for one am not willing to give up the Farm for the likes of that even if I'm 1 Small Corp ;)
