Now while it's possible that when adding the second dimm it won't work in dual channel, that's a risk i'd take to avoid 2T, etc...

Yes.

But the chances of adding the same kind of RAM & it not working in dual channel are slim.

If you don't think you'll be able to add the second 1 GB dimm in the next couple months though, then i guess that it might be better off to just get a 2x 512 MB kit, & sell that when you upgrade to 2 GB...but that's money lost then.

Meh, it's up to you, but my advice is still to just get the 1 GB dimm for now...

I'm running 4x512 sticks of GeIL Ultra DDR500 at 2.3.3.6, 2t timings and 2.7volts. It runs prime95 stable. I love it! But i have a venice 3000! The venice cores allow for 4 dimms at dual channel using 200mhz(ddr400 speeds)! I play BF2 all the time and it runs great! Don't be fooled! GeIL is good stuff and countless people bring it up easily to 250mhz and countless more past it! One guy got his to 325mhz with 4 sticks of it stable at 3.4.4.7 timings! But, if your on a budget then don't worry about it! You can get other that'll do the same for cheaper!

if you wait a few quarters, AMD's will see DDR2 motherboards, then you can play with DDR2 on an AMD board.

Actually the mushkins are superior to these (are the exact same OCZ sticks).

So if you paid $380 for something newegg has for $320 when two of those Mushkins can be had for $300 and are faster, I feel sorry for you.

Guys you need to understand the original configuration of the OP and bang for the buck. I suggest Option 2 or a combination of board from Option 1 and videocard in Option 2 combined with value ram prior to spending even 1 more dollar on some uber expensive ram. Also going with 2 gigs of ram and x800gto over 1 gig of ram and 7800GT is ridiculous imo. The chances of that sapphire gto board unlocking are slim. Looking long-term, even going with 1 gig PC3200 cheap stick and sacrificing some dual channel performance on A64 is worth it for a faster videocard if you are a on tight budget.

Technically the Munshkins are NOT superior. They both use the same (i think) Inferion DDR333 sever class CH-5/6 chips (yes, they are rated at DDR333, but OCZ and Mushkins seem to have gotten them to DDR500 at uber timings!!!).

So, based on Anandtechs review and another review (one that had munshkins), they perform identical and the OCZ seem to have a slight (couple of mhz) edge in OCing.

So basically, I paid too much were I could have had the Munshkins (redline), being the exact same chip, for less money. oh well, there fvck'n fast
