I see so many 939 users overclocking with PC3200...why not go with PC4000. You know your going to get at least 250mhz from it and possibly more. Is it just the price or what?

Jusr wondering...;)

Most s939 mobo's do nto support PC4000 if any and will lower it to PC3200.

not what I meant...

Thats understood, but if the memory is already rated at PC4000, then arent you lessening the chances of your memory being what holds back your oc if you run into a wall?

understand what Im asking?

no because your mobo will downclock your memory to PC3200 and it will be just like overclocking with PC3200 RAM.

yes it clocks it down to 3200 speed but you KNOW you can already get 250mhz out of it (because thats what it technicallyis, PC4000) instead of just knowing you can get 200 POSSIBLY more from reg 3200. get it now?

ok i kinda get what your saying now and yes you know for a fact you will be able to get 250 out of PC4000 RAM and you do not know that for a fact with PC3200 RAM.

jus ordered some Geil Ultra 4000 with 2.5-4-4-7....not tooooo bad ontimings. but to get most 3200 to clock to 250mhz or above you'll have to bring timings up a little anyway.

A64's don't get much benifit from the extra bandwidth, so it's not really worth the cost. You can use a divider when overclocking, without taking any signifacant performance hit, so doesn't really make sense to get the more expensive memory.

Yes.

But only if you tell us what your build is.

If you're building a budget machine, get some DDR400 value RAM.

If you're going with an X2 4400+ & SLI or at least an X1800XT, then i'd say it's time to start looking @ the Mushkin DDR500 2 GB kits :D

It's all relative.

For a high end PC, i'd get high end RAM.

For low end...value RAM FTW ;)

Thankyou.

That's a budget rig you're building, so go with DDR400 value RAM.
Try for 2 GB, that's more important for newer games than 1 GB of high end RAM.

yea I mostly play BF2 and Ive read it loves the stuff. Did a little trick and renamed the start-up videos and splashscreens and that cut out 125mb of memory that was originally getting loaded just for the little videos. Helped gameplay a lot. I have a gig right now, but if I get 2gb I want it to be a kit. I alt-tabbed out of game once and checked usage and it was consuming over 612mb just for BF2. any suggestions on ram then?

we want to "overclock" not "underclock" it... but if u have money to blow.. why not..
it's just same as asking why dont u get FX-56 cpu and be sure to hit 2.5ghz!.. because $$$$$$$$$..

I would recommend against a 2x 512 MB kit, since that would mean adding another 2x 512 to upgrade to 2 GB later (which you will want to do, especially when Vista comes out).
4x 512 MB means running at 2T, which means a performance hit.
Also, some motherboards have issues with 4 dimms when OCing.

I'd suggest a 1 GB dimm now, yes just one.

Then you can buy the same 1 GB dimm later, & you'll have 2 GB, & w/o issues or having to run 2T.
