Why not more hype about the Subaru Forester XT?

$25k. Top-notch subaru quality. AWD. Large size. Decent ground clearance. 0-60 in 5.3 seconds. I've seen hardly any mention of this on the boards except a few posts here and there or maybe a thread. The thing looks boring as hell, but dayum 0-30 in 1.3 seconds!!!!

What does this compete against ? I think it's neat, but isn't the price kind of high ? How much do the actually sell for ?

The forrester XT would be awesome if it wasnt fugly. Now if they made an outback that performed like this forrester ... That would be something to consider ...

25K is hardly expensive. It really has no direct competition if you consider the performance.

It's about the same price as the WRX but doesn't look as good. That's probably largely why though.

Defintely a sleeper though.

I don't think it really has competition. I can personally think of no other car that definies sleeper as well as this one right now. Granted, $25k isn't cheap - but then that's how much standard foresters have cost anyway, even before this rocket one. In the past their competition has been SUVs to an extent, although subaru in great part has their own corner of the market. Given that it's got nearly the ground clearance of an SUV and plenty of room if I was looking for one of those I'd pick this. It's not going to win any autocross or top speed events, but who cares...it will out drag at the lights the vast majority of cars on the road and the only ones who will win are pricey performance cars (pricey meaning high 20s+, but this is cars that are specially built around performance, and not hauling the kids around).

It's ugly but then so are all SUVs IMO.

I don't buy the 0-60 time tho. Think about it. It has less power then a regular WRX, weighs more and is faster?

It's a great car, quick, roomy and feels solid. It is a bit boxy feeling, but it's more of a suv type car than a lower riding sedan.
It doesn't fit the 13-18 demographic that is the majority on this forum.

Yeah the numbers don't seem to jive with me either, but I guess it's just geared to give it a ton of power on the low end - also C&D says that they thought the car felt more powerful than a 210 HP and may have been underrated.

Don't think that's particularly accurate, but I have to admit, since I've been looking @ who drives Foresters...

go away troll.

Direct competition? Not really... but mebbe you would find something comparable in the Volvo V70R. The Audi Allroad is too pricey as are other similar cars.
0-30 in 1.3 seconds yeah... thanks to AWD but do that too much and your clutch go byebye!

in the last age poll, the average demography is 20-25 years old.

What exactly is wrong with Subaru?

They're on par with Honda and Toyota as far as reliability goes, AFAIC.

I couldn't agree more...and I'm a forester owner!!!! As I have often said on this board, I drive the lesbian car of america. Hopefully I'll get an s2k soon but thats kinda fruity as well. Though I'm begining to imagine the horrors of an s2k in NE/Eastern Canada ski country.

The forester doesn't get much coverage in general, due to the fact that its market base is not really the performance crowd. If they are into performance, the STI is a better choice. The car C&D received was probably a little overrated in terms of HP and they probably slipped the clutch like crazy to get those times. There was some hype speculating they are 240 range which seems possible. Overall, its just not made to be a flashy car, just nice, solid and dependable.

I can't find the link but I made an ultimate age poll for those interested. Maybe a couple of months back...?

Yeah I guess foresters are for lesbians, but subarus as a whole are not. Castrated males I would typically consider to be volvo owners more than a subie (well aware that volvo makes a sleep or two as well, but you have to pay for it).

C&D said they dumped the clutch at 4500 rpm and I agree it's not something you'd want to do often, but then how often do you end up racing at lights anyway? :) It can't be good for the tranny either.

In regards to castrated if you want to take somebody at the lights your genitals are not on the chopping block, your car is. And you'll quickly see who's driving the castrated car when it goes green!

WRX is almost as much money and although overall a better performance car (minus the lowend of the forrester) it says RICER, and "officer, can I have a ticket please?".

It's interesting how people's tastes vary, you basically despise the Gamecube, which is the quirky console, and admire the Forester, which is the quirky performance suv.

just an observation.

Just as an added note, Soobs tend to be too quirky for the mainstream market. I noticed that when I was shopping for them 3 years ago. The cars are excellent (and the steering and AWD are some of the best in the world)....but the brand marketing and styling has been basically horrible.

Think Audi without the audi name stuffed into a malformed volvo and you get subaru.
