with today's technology we can build cars out of rubber, can't we? why haven't auto manufacturers approached it from this angle yet? there would be virtually no dents if you got T-boned at an intersection. hmm
Because, then your daughter and her boyfriend will think they won't need protection when they're getting it on in the back see of your car. Cause, you know, they're already in a rubber.
It's energy balance. During an accident there's a lot of kinetic energy (KE=.5*m*v^2). Currently that energy is used to deform the car body and hopefully not much reaches the occupants. Rubber wouldn't dissipate the energy and there would be much higher accelerations seen by the occupants.
