Why not make AGP cards with the chip and everything on top?

Video cards look sweet, with their custom HSF's, and what have you, yet that part faces down. Why don't they make them the other way? It would be a bit easier to see the "cool" bits.

oh... and it wouldn't take up another PCI slot if you had a honker of a HSF on it.

d'oh. I thought i had hit "edit" not "quote" :) oops.

here's a good idea for a mod:

flip it around and use some copper wires and soldering to attack the pins in the slot. then you could mount it wherever you want and run the wires into the agp slot.

i guess for a less ghetto mod you could cut the little extrusion where the contacts fit into the agp slot off of a cheap card and do some quality wiring/mounting

I dare you to flip your video card over. mybe it's time for an ypgrade anyway:)

little copper wires...that would be the most unreliable video card evar :)

there is no reason they couldnt be built the other way, but odds are the manufacturing setups would have to be swtiched around a lot and i doubt there is really a big market.

How about a mirror in the bottom of the case. i think i may do this after i get my case window.

A mirror on the bottom of the case? Unless your case is suspended in mid air this is quite possible one of the most ridiculous statements i've ever heard.

well, if it faces upward, and it has a huge hsf on it, it might not fit on some motherboards. but, if it faces down, and has a huge hsf on it, you just move some pci cards out of the way.
