Why not have more in colors?

Why don't motherboard manufactures make PCB's in different colors than green? I saw a red board HERE and would look really cool in a plexi case.

Yeah, it'd match some of the other stuff out there. Blue Mushkin RAM, blue Prophet II GTS (not that I'd buy one, but if I had blue everything else I would), blue , and I've got a blue Asante 10/100 NIC too (and I've seen blue arlotto NIC too). I'm pretty sure I saw a blue sound card once too, don't remember what kind it was though :(. Also the black PCB is cool too (pretty sure mushkin 150 is black, as is the santa cruz sound card).

To answer your question though, it's simple, there's verry little demand. Out of the billions of people out there, only a small percentage of people want something other than green/yellow PCB. Almost all of the consumers out there wouldn't know what a PCB is if you whacked them over the head with one.

Also, most of the colored motherboards out there are that way to catch your eye.

(PS: Her209, your PC9000 RAM has the wrong rating, if it were 133Mhz QDR then it would be PC4200, unless it were 128 bit, then it'd be PC8500 , or 160 bit, then it'd be PC10000

Several manufacturers use brown, Gigabyte uses blue PCBs, STB used to use black.

The AOpen AX6BC Pro II Millenium is black. Also the SB Live cards are black as well. Leadtek video cards are yellow.

Hmm, I just checked the Mushkin website, it's all black, I guess the picture I was was washed out or something.

All the rev 2 stuff is black with blue(!) chips, pretty darned cool.

I think it'd be pretty cool if there were red boards, that'd be dope (er, I mean for sale on the consumer market).

P.S. Her, no problem, glad I could help :).

hehe, that's a nice lookin board and a cool case mod.

As I see this new trend toward lit case mods etc. with portable neon, it made me think
of one company, color kinetics (www.colorkinetics.com)

This company has come up with a way to use super brite grade LEDS in red green and blue
to combine levels for any of 16.7 million colors all out of one light fixture.

Check out the videos in the showcase section on their website to see what I'm talking about, it's hard to describe.

Anyhow, if a person put one of these led extrusions in the bottom of their case, they could use a windows program to author a light show like lets say a slow fade from dark blue to aqua or a fast cycling of orange and red for a firey case show, and these lights are so bright they would make the moboard appear to be changing colors itself.

Another benefit is no heat, very low power consumption and 25 years of lamp life.

This stuff is "EXPENSIVE", about 200 bucks for a 6 inch piece.
but if someone wanted to do a case like no other in the world,
this would be the ticket!

I don't have time to pursue it, but if someone would like to market
this to the mod community and get a group together to purchase
a decent quantity, I could probably hook em up.

THankx
