Why not go 100% Cell phone?

I am ready to cancel my home phone service and go solely with a cell phone plan... On average, my home phone bill is around 35 dollars... I rarely use long distance... My cell phone bill on top of that is 39 dollars... I am spending 74 dollars a month on phones... WHy should I not cancel my homephone? i can just bump up my cell phone plan and just use that... are there any disadvantages to this? it seems like people waist so much money on having both home and cell phones, why not just go 100% cell?

my home phone bill is $23/mo. Thats 400 local calls. Not bad at all, considering i use the phone for maybe 2 hours a month.

otherwise i have a few friends who have done what you have. but they are using cricket or boomarang. they both offer unlimited local minutes.

we have no landline phones.....just two cell phones.

Some people have done this. There's some unlimited local cell phones out there like Cricket that are actually pushing for you to dump your land line. The downsides are you only have 1 phone, if it gets lost it's $$$ to replace, you can't use a modem/fax without special equipment, and limited battery life (unless you get an AC adapter). If it works for you though, go for it.

That and I still have problems with dead zones, people dropping calls and my phone dropping calls. If these problems didn't happen, then I might consider this as well.

I've done it for over a year now. Have cable for net access and TV. No real complaints so far.

i won't recommand cell phone only on GSM rogers network
but on telus CDMA network, it's good enought
depend on your cell phone provider

If you get a home alarm system and subscribe to a monitoring service, the alarm will need a landline.

I use it because I can't get unlimited calling since I make a lot of long distance calls (out of state girlfriend). If someone were to offer me a cell phone with unlimited anytime minutes and free long distance with no roaming charges for under $75/month I'd dump both my current phone and my home phone line.

1) DSL
2) Sending/receiving traditional paper faxes is a pain without a regular phone line
3) ReplayTV

If it weren't for these 3 reasons I'd cancel my home phone line.

Given the choice between dialing 911 on a cell phone or a land line, always choose the land line.

It's worth paying the $30 a month just for the reliability and saftey, IMO.

I've done this for a about a year now.
I canceled cell phone and got home phone back.
I found that I hardly use the cell phone and having a cell phone is kinda blows when i have GF who wants know where i am every freaking seconds.
plus I was paying like $20 more so i ditched cell phone as soon as the contract expired.

I only really use my cell. I have a lan line just for satelite/DSL/local calls (no long distance service). only $23/mo, split 3 ways .

Uhhh... what if you needed to make an international long distance call from your house? No landline - cell phone charges up the wazoo... or do you dial calling cards' 800-number on your cell?

For a year now I only use cell phone, no land line. But you've got to have a plan that give you more than 500 anytime minutes or you'll be paying overage a lot.

t-mobile has a plan i am looking at... really good flat rates on international calls... for example, 19 cents a minute to italy...

Or you could pay just 6.9 cents/min to call Italy
