Why not allow the sale of dog meat?

There isn't a single thing a dog can do that a pig can't. You would just need to lower light switches so the pig can reach them, everything else that a service dog does would need no special accommodations if the role was being performed by a pig.

Pigs are incredibly intelligent, probably more intelligent than all the common breeds of service dogs.

Pigs cannot lick their own butt.

You mean humanely euthanized? Who is going to oversee the killing of these animals to ensure that they humanely killed?

What about rats? Mice? Cockroaches?

And do you know if there is even a demand here in the US? Outside of this moronic forum, please link how there would even be a demand. You think rescues/shelters would even entertain the idea? Or you just going to spend the time and energy to round-up strays?

Love the trolling in this forum. Sad thing is some of you folks are even serious.

Do most people worry about if the cows, chickens, and pigs they eat are humanely killed? Why should it be any different for dogs?

The only issue I see is crossover..making the meat legal would inevitiably lead to someone using dog/ cat meat instead of beef...

Speaking of crossover, your neighbor might have your outdoor cat / dog for dinner. With a leg bone in hand they ask "oh, was that yours?"

Nothing wrong with a nice roasted rat haunch. There should be no laws against eating dogs or cats, it's purely cultural bigotry to pass a law preventing the eating of them. Before the argument is made, there are already laws on the books, very harsh laws, for killing other peoples animals.

So, you propose processing plants for dogs? Please find one that is going to do it and what the cost will be? Is it going to be cheaper than chicken? Rats? Mice?

And again, please find me a some evidence that there would be a demand? Links to people starving to death in the US?

Only here in P&N do people take a troll thread seriously.

It illegal to butcher and eat someone else's cow as well.

I doubt there'd be a demand, but that hardly seems like a reason to make something illegal.

I'd imagine scat is infinitely disgusting to the vast majority of the population, but shitting on your partner's face is legal if you really want to do it.

Horse slaughter plants have become legal again, after Congress quietly unbridled restrictions on processing horse meat. President Barack Obama signed the enabling bill Nov. 18.

Entities are already considering opening plants in Oregon and possibly Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Georgia and Missouri, slaughter plant proponent Sue Wallis said.

Between 120,000 and 200,000 horses will be killed for human consumption per year, she estimates.

In coming months the first couple of plants may open, Wallis said. The Wyoming state representative said her pro-slaughter group "United Horsemen," is working closely with entities to open what she says will be humane slaughter plants.

There are enough dogs, cats, and horses that we can use them as food AND keep them as pets and service animals. I have no problem with it.

Why not eat people? Someone dies in an accident, fresh meat. What difference does it make? I mean people from the UK will eat anything.

To be honest, I have no real objections to cannibalism either.

Isn't that what organ donation basically is?

Not sure if serious. Protection? Can a pig run 20 miles? Can a pig perform swim and rescue? Herd sheep/cattle? Detect seizures? Seeing eye pig?

Please provide links to all...

Pigs can be trained to protect.

Why do you NEED a anything to run an Iditarod style race?

Herding abilities - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...r-little-piggy-high-hopes-real-life-Babe.html

Seeing eye pig hasn't been tried, but given their intelligence and willingness to learn, I wouldn't be surprised.

Edit: some not-so reliable info on seeing eye pig, no info on ability to detect seizures, but cats have been shown to be able to do that. http://petcaretips.net/pigs-asistance-animals.html

Some of it is just pure bread.

YEEEEEAAAAAHHHHH!!!

Cattle rustling is still rampant in the west...can you imagine the public out-cry over dog rustling?

Dey stold mah doggie!

I'm not a fan of dog-meat sammiches...I've eaten it on the reservation with some of my relatives there, along with horse, mule, and donkey.

Meat's meat. (but that doesn't mean I want to see filet of Great Dane in my grocer's meat case.)

Dog meat would also be too expensive most likely because of their demand as pets. That and the cultural aspect will keep them out of the grocery store.

Eating dogs is not the same as cannibalism. If you can't figure that out then YOU are the troll here.

Nonsense. Just take all the strays that are ALREADY killed every year and turn them into dogmeat rather than throwing them out.

Re: cultural aspects keeping them out of grocery stores, I absolutely agree about that part.

I'd think that instead you'd probably see dogs bred and raised just for consumption.

I really see no counter argument to this.

We chose to eat certain animals. Why is eating of different animal wrong or banned?

Koreans eat dogs. They're first world and older generations eat them. They also have them as pets (eating breed is different). And they have zero problems.

Koreans also consume human babies. They're first order, time for the rest of the world to keep up.
