Why no talk of Celeron 667?

Outside of the fact that this chip isn't in the mainstream, it kinda bothers me to many folks aren't even recognizing the C667.

The history of the Celeron has proven that the fastest verion available typically isn't as good as the next fastest chip. The 333 and the 300A were release together. I think the 366 and the 400 came together. And now, we're seeing the 700. If things remain constant, the 667 could be a player. 1GHz anyone?

If you look on sites like PriceWatch or read reviews, you'll easily find the C700. But very, very little on the 667. You'll have to search for it rather than having it be featured for you already.

I really doubt the c667 will be a popular overclocker. I don't think the c600's are even very attractive overclockers.

He never listens to me. They're too damn expensive and the multiplier is too damn high. They are not going to work out. You will be paying PIII money for them almost.

Hehe, Compuwiz. I am very patient. I am willing to wait until the prices become reasonable ... and this chip proves its mettle.

On the other hand, I did get my MSI 6905 Master today ... and I may succumb to your overclocking wizardry.

Let me give a wild guess...

I'll say less than 5% of the 667 chips will hit 100 FSB stably with air cooling and voltages of 1.8 V or less. Don't count on 1 GHz, that's for sure.

Anyways, a 566@952 would probably run faster overall than a 667@1000, because of the faster bus and memory speed. And you're far more likely to hit 952 than 1000.

Hey, we could set up a betting book right here, pool our money, buy a few 667s and try it. SUO, the flaw in the mainstream theory is that it's not like we are waiting on early fabs to improve. Intel currently is fabbing in FC-PGA, 500a (rumored), 533a,566,600,633,667 and 700MHz parts. The core is the same, just where they test, set the multiplier lock and label it. I believe the yields are about as good as they are going to get overall, in these steppings. These are cB0 stepping. Has anyone seen a 500a FC-PGA? A rumor is going around that they exist. :Q

True, but when the "mainstream" arrives, the prices will be roughly $100 or so and just buying a few chips for testing is more "economical." Right now, the sites that "claim" to carry C667s have them equivalently priced with the C700s ... and even more expensive in a few cases. I just find that aspect of the C667s hard to believe.

You guys are absolutely right. It seems that the laws of physics and all things electronic are against o/c'ing at this stage (Celerons > 566). Please don't think that I am going to refute that. I'm just hoping and am very willing to wait some more time.

(Excuse me. My Golden Orb and my newly-arrived MSI Master are giving me a strange look ).

I've also recently had the urge to check out the AMD revolution for my own. 750s at $175 seems impressive, but I haven't kept up. SOme good news on the SMP front could sway me.

Because of past purchases, I want to stick with the 100 MHz FSB. As I have no buyer lined up for my system/components, I'm not desparate to forget this system and start over ... yet.

Yes, PIIIs too among other things. I have tons of work to do this weekend. I got a pile of retail celeries and some boxed 700E cB0s to test.
