why no single sign on for Android?

Why is this such a hard thing to accomplish?

Android requires your Google login to setup the phone, then you type in your facebook login to sync those contacts. Of course it doesn't remember your email address, so you have to type that in again. Ok no big deal, that's 2 times.

But now most apps use either your Google account or facebook for your login. Even if they don't why can't Android remember my email address so I don't have to type it in 20 times to get my phone running?

/weak rant

If it were to remember your email address, I can imagine a lot of security concerns will arise.

It's not like any other OS does that, either. Apple was trying to push the new in-app subscription policy to allow iTunes login for subscription-based services, but obviously that didn't go too well due to other factors.

I don't know what you're talking about. I don't have any of the issues that you've described.

I never had any issues, I just put in my Google account information and everything just worked.

I guess I wasn't clear. Sorry. Most apps require you to log in when setting them up. So when setting up your phone, you have to log in to all those different apps. Then every new app that you download, you have to log in to that one too. I understand having to enter your password for each one, but why email address?

Its only a big deal because my email address is 23 characters long with punctuation in it. Its a severe PITA to type in so many times.

Email address because you might have used a different email address to register in the first place?

I'm assuming you are re-loading your device very often or something along that line. If that's so, I'd suggest giving Titanium Backup a try as it'll be able to keep the settings for apps that you have downloaded, and in the long run, you won't have to re-enter login informations over and over again anymore.

I'm a Titanium user. I paid for it back in the old days when you had to paypal him because he couldn't sell it on the Market.

I just don't understand why I have to keep entering my email address over and over. I understand you may have used a different email for a couple things. I'm not saying this should be the only email allowed, just that it suggests your primary email address after the first couple characters. I think HTC does this with their Sense phones but I'm not sure. I could have sworn my HD2 did that.

I guess what you are looking for is autofill? I have never tried them but supposedly, there are a few apps on Android that does that. Not sure the scope of their operation, though, as different apps can do different things.

A fast way to do it, I'd imagine, is if you were to paste your email from a note app or something.

I've never had an issue. On the Google Market site, I simply use my Gmail.com login, and everything is plain sailing.
