Why no Quake4 demo??

there has been a demo for just about every other game out in october (BOS, SS2, FEAR, AOE3). Why not Q4? Are they going to push the release date back?? Cuz that would suck.

Games like Doom III or Half Life 2 were so hyped up that no demo was needed. Q3 demo was released before the game, which caused much debate, 32-bit vs 16-bit color, nvidia vs 3dfx.

[flamesuit]They'll release a $50 demo, then when the game turns out to be total crap, they'll release the Free demo[/]

cough doom3 cough

sometimes the developers are so far behind schedule they don't have time to release a demo . . . they just shove the barely completed game out there for sale, patch it 20 times and THEN release a demo to catch the people who waited. :Q

Games by id have been the benchmark of the industry for so long that they'll spur debates whether a demo is released or not.

id has released "test" versions of their new engines for every version of quake so far, in addition to a demo being released. I doubt a test release would even be necessary for Q4 though since it's probably using a near pristine D3 engine. But since id has handed off Q4 to Raven who knows what will end up actually happening, id was one of the few companies that supported Linux and OS X almost equal to Windows, I mean hell wasn't the q3 test released for Linux before Windows? In this case I'd be surprised if there's a non-Windows client at all, not that my machine here would run it anyway.

I like how people are already taking cheap jabs at Quake4. Like they are so damn angry about Doom3 that they will now take jabs at every game that utilizes the engine. Going to take some jabs at Prey next? You realize these are all different developers right?

Raven is responsible for: Xmen Legends, Jedi Knight / Jedi Outcast, Soldier of Fortune, Heretic 2, and Hexen 2. I believe they also produced Painkeep for the original Quake game because they started out modding. A major trend in a lot of their games has been utilizing Quake engines to produce really great SP / MP games.

Bleh.
