They offered one when the game was brand new then pulled it like a week later. I do not know why.

I wouldn't buy the game if i could play the same scenario with my friends online.

Dunno really...seems like they would at least offer some taste of the game. They'll probably have a free weekend sooner or later, or another price cut (I believe the weekend where it was $25 was a huge success, so they could do it again soon). Glad I got it then...but I don't know if I'd be happy paying more than $25. The game gets boring quickly and a lot of d-bag elitists play. Wouldn't recommend paying more than $25 for it.

Probably for a combination of reasons

When they first released a demo prior to the release of the game, they only offered campaign mode for the demo. This would be fine for a demo today, however to justify the cost of the game you need Vs. mode to round out the experience. To not include the Vs. portion could give people the wrong idea of the game. HOWEVER,iIf you include Vs. mode with a demo, there becomes less reason to pay for the full version as I know there are players out there that can put up with very limited map selection just to get away with a free version of the game.

What would be really cool to do and what seems very possible with something like steam, would be an option for people to demo any game they want for a day or two, and if they like it they can buy it, otherwise the files get locked. Of course I suppose you could always end up having people create new accounts just to play games indefinitely without paying, however this could be offset with a requirement to have purchased at least one game before you can play any demos.

In my opinion there's no "good" reasons for pulling out a demo, whatever it included. In my case I didn't have time to try out the demo because I thought they would never "remove it", like any other game demos out there, then of course I had been trapped, so I didn't want to buy it. Most of my friends with whom I played TF2 regularly bought it however, and they said "it's good man come play with it us!". It remained like that for three weeks, during which I kept telling them that I had absolutely no idea of how the game played, off-line or not, so there was no way I would spend $50 on that. Eventually one of my friends sent to it to via a Gift, so I was lucky about that, but otherwise, to be honest, I would have never bought it until a massive price reduction occurred.

I dislike that Steam sometimes offers a 3 day "guest pass" when you buy a game, but instead of the 3 days starting upon completing installation, it begins the moment your friend begins the download. It can take people a long time to download some of these large games online, particularly if they are on lower end broadband, and not everyone is free to download around the clock just to accommodate Steam. Bad policy!

As I recall, it was fairly easy to load levels into the demo. So if someone with the demo got ahold of the full levels, they could play them. Also, even with a free weekend, it's really easy to go through all the content at least once. So it's just hard to limit what people get out of the demo.

That's another good point. Having to babysit a special demo to make sure people aren't hacking it to get a bigger/better experience closer to a full game out of it is something Valve doesn't want to focus resources on. They're obviously busy enough just keeping the game patched up with balances and fixes and new content as is.

lol I played the hell out of the demo, easily spent more time on it than the last 4 games I bought combined.

A multiplayer FPS that is only 4 players? As odd as that is I refused to purchase without a Demo. At this point, months later, my interest has waned and I don?t even really care anymore.

Valve missed their chance by not providing any Demos.

Well, to be fair, it is primarily a co-op game. And as you can see, pretty much every co-op game out there has a limited amount of players (8 players in Versus mode).

But I agree with the most part, having the demo still active would be very nice for alot of people still on the fence since $49.99 is alot of money for a multiplayer game.
