Why no dark backgrounds?

I thought with the forum upgrade that we would finally enter the 21st century and be able to change text color and background.

Black with yellow or white or green lettering.

I am on the computer a lot and really like forums where you can have black backgrounds, I know that vBulletin has this feature. If I missed this feature, ignore this post.

His post is about having some choice. We had it at the old forums and you were free to choose whatever was available. He's asking if the same can be done here.

My understanding (I may be wrong) is that a skin of some sorts is either in the works or waiting in the wings. I think they're waiting for the initial wave of issues to be worked out before implementing it.

Yes, of course with a choice.

Did you read this from a mods post? I hope so...

OK guys, I found a fix that works but still has some bugs

>> This only works for people using Firefox. <<

Firefox users have the option of using add-ons (if you are unaware of this, you really are missing out as there are TONS of great add-ons). I recently learned about one called "Stylish".

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2108

With it you can restyle websites yourself or find styles that have already been done and are being shared at Userstyles.org

I found this one today:

http://userstyles.org/styles/22383

It is specifically for Anandtech forums. Here is a preview:

I like it. Only problem I'm having is that I cannot see what I am typing in the "quick reply" box nor the "Go Advanced" box. My workaround is to disable that style while I type my reply. Not terrible because it is quick and I don't have to relaunch/close the browser but of course I would rather have it work without doing that.

Any suggestions on how to fix it?

I also have found other styles that I really like. Google, Wikipedia, Craigslist (OK, haven't found a really good one for CL yet)...

I use the Dark Doom9 style with Stylish:
http://userstyles.org/styles/12809

Simply add "domain(forums.anandtech.com)" to the @-moz-document line at the top of the script. This will tell Stylish to use the style with the Anandtech forums.

It works well, and is vastly easier on my eyes than any style with a white background. I hate white backgrounds on web sites. A web site isn't paper; color schemes that work well on paper are not the best choice for use on a computer monitor where the light source is behind the screen and shining into your eyeballs.

Edplayer: Love the colour scheme, but not being able to see the Cursor or what I type is a major PITA. If I knew more about Scripting I'd attempt to fix it. Hopefully someone does.

Thanks! It works.

hg403's dark theme for Anandtech forum was updated in February of this year. You can now see the text you are typing in the message box.

Here are pics comparing both (SKYY's is on top):

I think I like the Doom9 colors more but links don't change colors when they are clicked unlike hg403's which does.

Once again, thanks to both of you for helping out (hg403 and skriefal)

OK, problems now with the Anandtech VB - Dark Theme.

Works fine till you try to quote someone, then you can't see what was quoted unless you highlight where you think the quote is or turn the theme off. Tried the Skace version and it does the same thing.

Would be nice if we had an official Dark Theme to choose from...
