I would go with they usually look horrible and on a "tech" site it makes it look amateurish.

Plus the requirements of hosting them and taking longer time for people to download them over normal avatars and while they are fine in image heavy threads we don't need them all over the place.

I like animated avatars, however; our members would just be hiding frames of porn or something equally stupid thinking they are hackers.

I don't get why suck ever became a bad term. I have been sucked many times and I can't say it's ever been bad.
