why no 2 core bulldozer?

First of all, Bulldozer is meant to be a high end part. Llano has the dual core portion of the market covered. It's the same reason that Intel doesn't offer any dual core EE chips.

Also, after a certain point making only two cores just isn't worth it, much like you don't see either Intel or AMD making single core chips. Eventually the entry level Intel chips will be quads.
 
Because AMD needs 2x as many cores to compete with Intel, and Intel doesn't sell single core CPUs anymore.

Wikipedia lists a 2 core Bulldozer module to be released, the FX-2150. Have plans for this been axed?

EDIT: Hrm, curious... following the link to Wikipedia's source the FX-2150 has been eliminated from the Xbitlabs article (or it was never there).

I wonder if the performance doesn't scale well with the lower cores?

I imagine it doesn't get the attention of the higher core models

that's alright, 4 is good. now if we can just get the damn things released already, not that i can afford 1 yet, i wanna see reviews and overclocks!

Arent all Llano chips quad core?? Oh thats right, it takes four cores from AMD to compete with Intel's i3 2100.
 
I wouldn't mind a dual core BD I usualy dont ever use more then 2 cores on my everyday system. I want a dual core with no igp thats why i was hoping for a dual core bd.

There will be 2 core (1 modual) and 4 core (2 modual) bulldozer chips, when they start makeing the next APU's.

The ones that ll replace the Llano.



for now though, the first gen bulldozer chips out, will be for the highend.
Those will come in 8 to 16 core processor chips.
 
I want to start a thread "Why No 4 or 8 core Bulldozers?" 🙂

P.S. to both JF-AMD + IntelEnthusiast... if you think I'm getting antsy about all the CPU delays... you're right! I have a system to build and I feel like I've been left in the waiting room while the place closed up for the summer! 🙂

Yes they do. Socket 775 Core 2 based Celerons have single core models (420/430/440) Also, see below.

Supposedly there will be a single core Sandy Bridge Celeron.
