With the SP1, you have to buy the $14 codec .... what a a bunch of shit....

I just bought "Mafia" and can't play the game as it will not load because I do not have the Indeo codec...

🙁:|:|:|:|:|

You sure that you just didn't miss something while installing the game? Seems that they wouldn't leave out something that you need to run the game. Search your CD for indeo.

Sorry, I tried to help..Do a Google search and see what you come up with.

Yep, MS is a bunch of shit

Blame Ligos, Not Microsoft on this one.

Um, I dont see what the problem is........follow Gonzo's link, and you end up here: http://ligos.com/indeo_registration_form.php All you gotta do is click the link, and choose your d/l location.

???? I dont see the problem 🙂 Or do they ask for CC # or money or something during the actual installation setup of the program to get a registration # or something?

Nope, N/M, I followed the install process right up until its about to actually install the program, I didnt have to pay $14 even once 🙂

Quite true. We have to blame Ligos for this. Here's something taken from their website!

Indeo XP Codec Package for Windows XP

With the September 2002 update to Windows XP (known as Service Pack 1), Microsoft is no longer distributing any version of the Indeo codecs with its operating system. This only affects users with new PCs that are shipping with Windows XP Service Pack 1, or clean installs of Windows XP SP1 on an older system. Installation upgrades of SP1 and the use of Windows Update does not remove existing Indeo codecs from your system.

In order to meet the needs of those who use Windows XP and require Indeo codecs, Ligos has created a special version of Indeo Video 5 called Indeo XP. Indeo XP includes the enhancements of Indeo Video version 5.1, and new optimizations exclusively for operation on Windows XP systems. The enhancements include the following:

Optimization of scalability feature for best playback on fast, Windows XP based systems
A new wavelet compression algorithm that greatly improves visual quality
Better compression at all levels of video quality than previous generation codecs
Playback performance enhancements including smoother, interpolated "zoom by 2" playback
Indeo XP is a 32-bit driver codec intended exclusively for Windows XP systems, and will not install on other operating systems. Indeo XP also includes the legacy codecs Indeo Video 3.2, Indeo Video 4.5, and Indeo Audio 2.5. If you install Indeo XP, you do not need to download and install the Indeo Codecs Legacy Package shown below.

Indeo XP is available for purchase and download through our electronic store for $14.95.
