I think you're being too generous with your grading.
However, that doesn't stop me from laughing through the SciFi Cheesy Movie o' the Week. When I think of all the unemployed actors that exist, I wonder how they can unfailingly find the absolute worst ones.

Harpies ATTACK!!

The problem with the SciFi channel is Science Fiction/fantasy is like Anime there are some really good movies/series in a sea of utter and complete crap. It's hard to make a network out of the 1% that's good when those properties tend to be the expensive ones.

Cost cost cost cost cost.

Look at BSG. Everyone was complaining mid season 3 that there were no Cylons, no battles, nothing. The reason wasn't because they didn't want them in the plot but rather that the cost of making effects sequences is too high. Who of us that are fans has not memorized the 'Combat landing' sequence that is played every time the Vipers land (y'know, the one where the MkVII bounces of the deck to the right?) It was evident towards the end of season three that they have redone their SFX completely. Starting with Maelstrom the MkVII now looks completely different from the ones in season 2. They have a much more plastic and cartoony look, compared to the grittiness of the first seasons.

True, but a decent Sci-Fi script and no budget to make it 'Sci-Fi' tends to hurt.

I like Eureka and BSG... that one miniseries they did a few months ago about that hotel room was pretty good too, I thought.

That show's worth it just for watching Kristanna Lokken being hot! And the writing HAS been getting better. I'm going to stick with it.

I never could get into SG: Atlantis; in part because the first time I saw Sheppard, he was supposedly this elite military guy, but he had a haircut that looked like he'd fit right in at an LA club. Credibility gap.

wait... elite military guys cant dress fashionably and go to clubs with good haircuts? i wasnt aware of that req when you signed up. theres only gaps if you want them to be. i watch scifi sometimes, i agree that eureka is entertaining, but ive never actually tried to parallel anything they brought in the show to real life... some of the old movies are good to watch, some of those others suck donkey ass. all the variations of stargate suck IMO, so i dont watch those. i also love watching twilight zone reruns, and some of the other stuff they bring out... but i also agree that they are losing their edge from where they were before, i also did a wtf when i saw wrestling come on one night...

My husband and I think that Kristanna Loken looks and sounds like a younger Kathleen Turner.

Didn't they used to have Quantum Leap and Sliders reruns? Those were fun. Their mini-series occasionally turn out to be pretty good such as Dune.

I imagine it's the same reason why CSI is on The History Channel. I am glad that is no longer allowed.

Scifi is weird lately...but it was ALWAYS filled with crap, just the mixture was different. Remember when they used to play crappy TV series all day long instead? Most of those were mediocre, some awful. But, he had my guilty pleasures like quantum leap and highlander: the series. Sliders was cool too. I wish they would go back to airing more old series reruns though. While a lot of these shows I was never a huge fan of, they weren't to bad and I'd rather watch a rerun of those then wrestling...WTF? And I miss MST3K saturday mornings.

Wasn't there an ATer...Tygeve or something like that who did promotional materials/art and occasionally acted in the same terrible "Bad CGI dinosaur attacked big boobed blonde that can't act" movies they play so many of now? I remember when he had a thread talking about it I thought his life actually sounded pretty fun, even if the end products he worked on are mostly total shat. I also remember he wore woman's jeans.

The writers are already turning things upside-down(Beckett: gone, Weir: gone, Carter: moved over from SG-1), I'd rather not have the writers messing with the Core 4 (Dax, Shepard, McKay, and Teyla) too.

WAIT.. where did Weir go?

For some reason, I've been preferring BBC America lately. Plenty of Dr. Who, the new Torchwood series is about to air, and the occassional Avengers episode. Hex is actually mildly amusing too.

I like Eureka, except for Matt Frewer, totally wrong show for him. I will be interested to see their remake of Wizard of Oz late this year.

You'll like this then:

July 31, 2007 - HDNet announced today that it has acquired the high definition rights to the first twenty-six episodes of TORCHWOOD, the hit sci-fi drama that the BBC describes as "inventive, intelligent and unpredictable."

Doctor Who and Ghost Hunters and Twilight Zone is pretty much all I watch on Sci-fi.

I wish they would air some of the old shows again.

Dark Shadows, Max Headroom, Automan...anything older and weird and cool.

I downloaded a few of the Torchwood episodes that have aired over in the UK, and while they're ok, they're nowhere near the caliber of the current Doctor Who. Hopefully, the later episodes will pick up as the cast, crew, and writers get more familiar with the ideas and characters.

Speaking of Doctor Who... While Martha Jones is great, I still miss Rose.
