i like WinME, and it doesn't crash, and after i kill all the System Restore and shi!t its fine, and Win2k like shell is nicer than win98, gaming performane is great, what is the problem every1 else finds in it?

edit:
I dual-boot WinME with Win2k. Can't decide which one i like better, since i can trash winme and clean install it everytime it bugs me (once in 3 months or so)...

Hmmm, I don't know. I just prefer Win 98SE, maybe because it's more original. If "Win2k like shell is ncier than win98", you might as well getting Win 2K. I personally use Win 2K.

People prefer Win98SE to ME because it less of a resource hog, also it`s been out longer & in most cases more stable then ME,btw I`m still using Win98 OS1 which on my rig is rock stable,I`ve no intention of using ME or Win2000,I may go with XP but only if gaming stability is good.

I agree, to an extent. Before I set up my ide raid winme was fine, but this was only AFTER I disabled system restore, tweaked swap file usage etc. Now with the raid setup I get some random crashes, mostly with windows media player. I think the problem is buggy software (excuse me for pointing out the obvious). It seems they just keep releasing software and figure they can patch the holes later.

i like winme over win98se also. much more stable and you do not have to tweak it as much as win98se. some have called winme a tweaked win98se which probaly isn't far from the truth. plus DOS being eliminated improves performance also.

I'm a fan of WinME too. You gotta remember, 'better the devil you know' some ppl think. I remember changing from Win 3.11 to Win95 and my first impressions of Win95 were awfull and went straight back to Win 3.11. This was mainly down to it being a new OS and in it's early stages. This is a key point. Ppl just don't like change and become very familiar with their current OS, which I have to say is normal. I'm very much the same.

However, now that I'm getting familiar with WinME and getting my system running as best it can I wouldn't go back to Win98SE.

Resource hog it may be in some instances, but as RAM is so cheap now it's not so much of an issue as it was. I don't think it slows my system down noticeably at all. Some would also say that Win98 has better support, drivers for example. It will only be a matter of time b4 WinME has the same support.

Each to their own is what I say.

;)

[Edit]

I just had a thought. Those that bought the full version and laid out the cash on an Original Copy of the software are more inclined to sit it out and make it work. Those that use a Beta/Pirated copy will be keen to flame the OS and will soon go back to an already substatiated OS. (Only some ppl that is so don't flame me ;))

i didn't pay for them, and still don't trash any M$ OS, since i tryed Linux twice and it was simply too complicated for me.

i know i'm a pirate, but i only pay for stuff i like, and bill gates won't get anything from me until i see some really great mirosoft product, and not just stuff i use since there is no viable alternative.

edit: "C" key on me keyboard is stucccccccccccccccck :(

Tried it, turfed it. Had to many problems with my other software and some hardware. The covering up of real DOS and System Restore did not make up for the loss of some good system tools and compatability. This install of 98se has been goin' since Feb 2000 and it's as solid as a rock. This system is the home internet, file and print server, runs Seti 24/7 as well as it don't complain when games (Quake2&3,Half Life,Unreal Tornament,Revolt,Flight Sim 98 and many others)are thrown at it either.I couldn't get that with ME.

wolf550e,

No! no! no! - what you meant to say is that you are a free "bug testing" operative ;)

There is no such thing as simple piracy for your OS :)

I think he's more "brave" saying it's more stable (than 98/98SE) according to popular opinion on here - which has been my verdict also during the last 6 weeks of ME as my OS :)

I tried winME and hated every second of it. Many compatibility issues, drivers not working with certain devices in my system bla bla I wont be upgrading and sticking with win98SE... atleast untill something way better comes out again. My network with 5 puters all run win98SE and i couldnt be more happy with them for my gaming purposes

I prefer WinMe. With the help of a program called Tweak-Me, i've gotten it very stable and robust feeling. Memory management and memory leaks are problems, but not any worse than Win98SE. I think the memory footprint of the OS may be a little bigger, but with 256MB the OS runs very well. I've never ran WinMe on a system with 128MB of RAM however.
