Why me, oh great god of Overclocking, why me?

Greetings,

I bought a new Athlon XP-M (AXDA2500KV4E) and I am trying to push it over the 2.2GHz limit running on air. I'd like to boost it to 2.5GHz, more than that would be murdering (meaning I'd prolly kill the CPU...).

Is there something I don't know I should know about overclocking? But, first things first, here are my specs:

Abit NF7-S v2.0 BIOS 27
Athlon XP-M 2500+ (AXDA2500KV4E) @ 2.2GHz (11x200 for now) @ 1.6v
1G of EL OCZ PC3200 Dual Channel Platinum Rev2 CAS2 @ 2-2-2-5 @ 2.6v
ATi Radeon 9700 Pro @ StockSpeed (AGP bus is at 66MHz)

When I increase the FSB, CPU&RAM voltage and the CAS latency, my system just don't like it. Anyone with similar specs? If so, what's the most you can get from your rig?

so 2500 is approximately 11 x 227.

the nf7-s has a known issue of not wanting to run a high fsb w/o mods and such.

so what you're gonna have to do is up the mult to something like 12 so you only have to use a fsb of 208.

this will also prevent you from stressing your memory too much.

try upping your voltage from 2.6 to 2.7 just to be safe.

i think everything else should be fine.

The multiplier on the XP-M is unlocked, so I believe you can go up to 12 with the chip. There were a couple boards that let you use the full array of multipliers above 12 as well. I think your NF7-S was actually one of them. That will help you keep your FSB low.

I tried to run the CPU @ 12x200, but it was IDed by the BIOS as a 2.2Ghz (11x200).

I'll try again. Who knows...

Must be a BIOS thing ... my XP-M 2500+ (AXMH2500FQQ4C) ran fine at 12.5X200 = 2.5Ghz on my Asus A7N8X. But memory was finicky on that board ... couldn't get two different kinds of value RAM above 175 stable, only my Corsairs 3200LL would do 200 (and no higher).

maybe push voltage a little on the memory and loosen the 5 to a 8

I couldn't tell the difference between 2000 and 2500 when dropping the memory speed to 166. No real difference for me when running regular apps. With the default speed of 2000, I can set the memory at 200 in manual and run just as smooth.

Give the cpu more vcore if you have decent cooling. I remember running my mobile bartons at 1.8v and some would use more than that.
