Physical vs. mental 'pleasure'. I thrive on knowledge, information, insights and discoveries, while physical pleasures, although 'pleasurable' (duh), are not quite as fulfilling.

I'm with you 100%.

Oh, one other note: I'm not a divorce lawyer (thank god) but I think "community property state" only applies to what's been earned after the beginning of the marraige. I could be way off there, though.

Nothing in particular other than experience. You're what? 16? Don't you think others have thought similarly as you? All I'm saying is that the world is a messy place, dig in and enjoy it, you'll be missing the greater part of what life is by hiding in an intellectual shell.
 
While its different from state to state, community property applies to all property gained after the marriage, however any that you have before the marriage can EASILY be commingled (such as by filing the taxes for that property jointly,anything of this sort) and it will make it into community property.

If you like prenups, I think you are missing the point.. A good marriage is based on LOVE and TRUST... if you love and TRUST someone you dont need a get out of jail free card. Its like giving up on the marriage before you even start... if thats your thing, great, but Ithink its pretty shallow

Jjones, it seems to me that you dont understand that you can live a very happy life, without a relationship, for some, perhaps Elledan, just friendship is enough to suffice happiness.
We all find our happiness through different means, some being love, and some being through the means Elledan mentioned (knowledge,insight etc).
I dont think you can assume that someone will lead a sad existance because they claim they do not need more than platonic love.
When you tell him that he has a emotionally devoid reality based on his ideas of love, there are other people who feel the same way, are all who think like him emotionally devoid, doomed to live a sad existance as long as we dont change? I doubt it.
I think you just feel this way because your more on the emotional side and that's where you derive your happiness from (love). But some derive it from other means, and that does not mean that they are ,as you put it, "emotionally devoid". That's just your perspective based on your experiences, which I'm guessing apply to the majority, but not the rest of us. 😛
