Why lie about yourself on Intarweb forums?

I'm honestly curious about people who make up bogus threads and fake stories to try and impress others on Internet forums.

Is there really someone around here worth impressing? Even if you were to shen someone into believing that you were 500 times "better" than you really are, what does it accomplish?

Maybe I should change my major from Computer Science to Psychology, because this is interesting and I don't think anyone has ever studied it. *shrug*
