PORT ST. LUCIE, Florida -- A teenager is recovering after
police say he shot himself in the penis and testicle while cleaning a gun he just bought.

It happened Thursday morning at a home on the 200 block of Verada Street in Port St. Lucie.

Police say 18-year-old Michael Smeriglio first lied to police saying someone shot him while he was walking down the street. After being questioned by police he admitted to accidentally doing it himself.

Doctors say the bullet went through his penis, his left testicle and then lodged itself in his thigh.

Smeriglio told police he bought the gun last month at a party.

While police were investigating at the home where it happened, they discovered marijuana in the house. That led to
the arrest of the homeowner Joseph Lamar James, 22, on drug charges.

The darwin award is reserved for stupid people who kill themselves.

Is there an award for stupid people that sterilize themselves? But he only took out one testicle, so he still might be able to reproduce.

Maybe something like a second place sterilization award?
 
I'm a liberal and I'm smart enough to make sure a weapon is cleared before I start messing around with it.

Assumptions... remember that funny line "makes an ass of u... etc. etc."

the title should be "Why people who have never handled a firearm, should get safety training before buying one."

but I guess that's not sensational enough.

Darwin award is for people who can't self propagate. Death is ultimate denial of self propagation but I'm pretty sure someone who is sterile and missing genitalia can't have babies and therefore cannot pass on his genes.

liberals trust the police state and therefore don't need a gun . .. . they think 8 minutes is an acceptable amount of time to wait for an officer of the law to respond and come take a report of the crime that was commited.

This is correct. You can get an honorable mention for almost removing yourself from the gene pool though.

We can only hope it gets infected/gangrene and falls off later. Still, he can probably lose several inches and have more dick than OP.

8 minutes, where do you live? In my town it takes 25 minutes on average for officers to respond specifically to armed home invasion calls. And that was before they put a laptop in every squad car.

Here's a newsflash, these "liberals" you speak of are very rare and are mostly strawmen constructed by your thought leaders.

The true way to tell is which testicle was shot. (Left or Right)

Edit: I reread the article. He shot his left testicle, so he was a republican trying to remove all his left leaning offspring.
