This should be fodder for a good bashing.... I'm not sure I agree with it though.

More intelligent people are significantly more likely to exhibit social values and religious and political preferences that are novel to the human species in evolutionary history. Specifically, liberalism and atheism, and for men (but not women), preference for sexual exclusivity correlate with higher intelligence, a new study finds.

So gay men and straight men are smarter than bisexual men? I guess they know in which goal to put the puck.

Folks who start their own damn religions are smarter than those who don't? I can see that.

Folks who agree with my novel politics are smarter than everyone else? This I can fully understand.

Uhhh sexual exclusivity means that the person sticks with one mate. It has nothing to do with their sexual preference. You must be a religious conservative ;)

Oh, okay, I learn something new even on Saturdays. But my observation still applies, unless you're dating GaGa.

Heinlein Knew this a long time ago.

"Geniuses and supergeniuses always make their own rules on sex as on everything else; they do not accept the monkey customs of their lessers." Friday, Ch. XXI, p. 214

The day liberals and atheists become more intelligent is the day that the world ends.
It does make some sense that people who self identify as sheep might not be the folks who are perceived to be the most brilliant baubles in God's jewelry box.

What about conservative atheists? :p

Or religious liberals?? :hmm:

Big surprise. A known evolutionist, who is likely also liberal and/or atheistic in his views, suddenly comes out with a "study" saying that, shockingly, liberals and atheists are smarter!!

I only hope that he got funding for this so-called "study", and suddenly finds himself presented with a bill for return of payment due to lack of research performed.

Let's see, I'm not religious, I am fairly centrist in my politics with a bit of a liberal bias but I don't vote strictly along party lines, and I have been in a faithful, loving relationship with the same woman for almost 2 decades now.

I don't see how being close minded is a sign of intelligence.

Who is being closed minded?

I'm an atheist and I have a problem with this study on the basis that it mentions God.
God is a construct of a particular group of religions, and has little place in a broad discussion of religion as a whole.

It would be interesting to see a breakdown by religion, assuming participants were more than just Christians, and it would be interesting to see whether the sweeping generalisations about the beliefs of religious (Christian) people hold for those participating.
I'm unsure that a Buddhist would see the hand of God at work behind natural phenomena.
