Why isn't there something like satellite Pandora?

I love Pandora, use it all the time at work or home. Have it on my iPhone even but that's dependent on actually having cell coverage.

If there was some satellite receiver with a minimal monthly cost that would let me make my own custom stations just like I can with online Pandora, I'd pay for that in a heart beat.

Yeah, that's efficient - using a satellite to send an individual stream to each subscriber. There's a reason why satellite Internet is expensive and slow.

I've had it.

It sucks in that I can't hear exactly the kind of music I like.

Not much better than just turning on the radio in a big city and not worth the cost IMO.

Meh, I get it on my phone, but I have sprint with free roaming and don't lose signal.

Would be nice if they could develop a pandora head unit or device to be plugged in though.

Just get an iPhone or another phone with Pandora support. Or an aircard for a laptop. Your coverage is going to be just as good as any portable satellite device's would be. Service is relatively inexpensive. And you can do a lot more with any of those things than your fictional device.

Streaming Pandora thru the 3.5mm jack on my iPhone, even in metro Phoenix with good cell coverage, does not produce as good of sound as XM. Of course, the Lexus has an above average speaker system. Pandora over WiFi/broadband using headphones..now thats good enough for me.

I gotta disagree. I got XM in my car now, and most of the channels are compressed to hell. Pandora is great in 3G, and good with edge. Once my trial is done, bye-bye XM.

No kidding. XM's quality is shit for many of the channels. Also, who says you have to use the headphone jack on the iPhone? You could use a proper car integration kit for audio through the dock connector for some improvement in audio quality. You could also use the slacker app (which has better audio quality at lower bitrates), or last.fm. Or a different device/service entirely.

And we're not even talking about XM, we're talking about some fictional satellite-based Pandora-like service. Who's to say this wouldn't sound even worse than XM or an iPhone 3G streaming Pandora due to the amount of bandwidth required to service users?

Like I said...just silly.
