why isn't tennis popular in america?

Most Americans don't know the rules very well, so it makes it confusing and boring to watch. I played in high school, so I enjoy watching the grand slam tournaments.

Same reason soccer isn't? No real formal seasons in the states. No mass marketing pushing it. No pre-season hype. And it's too athletic for a majority of people to play well therefore they have never played it themselves thus creating no first hand interest in it.

Why don't Europeans like our sports like Baseball and [american] Football?

Answer: "They're boring."

Well guess what? We find tennis and soccer boring.

LOL, you go to Downers Grove North?
ha, I graduated last year, it feels good to be out of that place.

You are an idiot.

Soccer is the most popular (by a mass margin) sport in the World.

Now die.

Because its an enlarged version of Ping-Pong..... Its exciting for like 10 seconds until you realize all they are doing is hitting the ball back and forth.

Oh well, I still find it boring as all hell. "The center...over to the wing...the wing back to the center...he holds it...holds it....HOLDS IT!!!!"

Boring.

But baseball is exciting, right?

Tennis is fun to play but extremely boring to watch like golf.. Everything is calm and there seems to be no since of urgency. Baseball and football are the opposite altough I still find them boring to watch. No sport would be popular if Americans had to get off their ass and play them. Would you rather live vicariously through a football player or a tennis player.

Tennis is a victim of technology.

Americans play what they like to watch on TV. That's why we play baseball and football and basketball while we don't take to hockey and soccer. In the 80's tennis was great on TV, the matches were exciting, the players highly skilled, the coverage made for excellent viewing and the tennis courts around the country were PACKED!

When wide-body rackets hit the pro tours the game changed. Power replaced skill, serve and volley replaced rallies, matches got boring as every point was boom-boom, over instantly. The game started to suck, it wasn't worth watching anymore. If it's not fun to watch on TV nobody plays and if nobody plays there's no fan base to watch on TV. It's a downward spiral.

I don't understand how watching/following a sport is all tangled up with playing it. I've never played football in my life but love to watch it on TV and follow the teams. Same with hockey. Baseball, golf and basketball however I do play and also love to watch.
