why isn't tennis popular in america?

When wide-body rackets hit the pro tours the game changed. Power replaced skill, serve and volley replaced rallies, matches got boring as every point was boom-boom, over instantly. The game started to suck, it wasn't worth watching anymore. If it's not fun to watch on TV nobody plays and if nobody plays there's no fan base to watch on TV. It's a downward spiral.

Couldn't the same be said for baseball? People just watch it for the homerun competition between a couple 'roid popping muscleheads.

Well guess what? We find tennis and soccer boring.

You are an idiot.

Soccer is the most popular (by a mass margin) sport in the World.

Now die.

not more popular than auto racing

When did auto racing become a physical sport? Auto racing is a motor sport.

Die.

tennis is fairly popular in the US. It's still more viewed as a pansy, rich mans sport like golf is, so a lot of blue collar people are turned off by it, whereas they see all kinds of people from different backgrounds compete in sports like football, basketball, and baseball and feel as though they can relate more to them. Also the lack of contact in the sport makes a lot of people say "its not a man's sport", even though those people wouldn't live past one set with most professional tennis players

Hehe wow you're a moron.

I enjoy playing tennis. It's lots of fun, but the problem is finding someone who is around your level to play with/against. I don't watch it though because we don't have cable and I find it kinda boring to watch. I love to play though.

tennis is the best sport ever, it rarely slows down in action like the other sports

now rugby....i saw highlights from games and i was wtf is happening

one reason why I stopped playing, temperarily at least. In high school, either your on the tennis team and a lot better then me, or you've never touched a racket in your life. None of my friends played, so I stopped taking lessons because the only person I could ever play with was my stupid teacher.

the truth is, you two are morons. give a sh!tty car to the best pilot out there, and see if he can win any race.
the car plays far more important role than the driver. so shut up morons.

An open-wheel driver can lose up to 20 pounds during a race from dehydration. He is continuously sustaining a g-load in at least one direction and usually in two. He has to monitor everything that is going on anywhere near him on the track and be able to react in milliseconds. The only job that requires more skill in reaction and monitoring of surroundings is that of a fighter pilot.

Who pissed in your cheerios this morning?

well off topic but talking about racing

i think car is important but driver is equally important, if not more

i dont follow nascar/cart but if you see F1

look at schumacher and barichello, both drive exactly similar cars

and look at the no of races schumy has won and the number rubens has

dont schnumarcher and ruben have different cars??

both drive ferrari, same engine, little tweaks to suit the driver but that is their choice, as far as the team is concerned they make 1 car for the team not for individual driver

yea there is no handicap system ALA golf or bowling..

the only thing u can do is give away points or play double width.. but then you can still kick your opponent's ass haha

i think its cause they cant be loud and cheer and honestly i think its very boring. Just hitting the ball back and forth over a net isnt that entertaining,i mean sometimes the volleys get insane and its fun to watch the highlight reel but thats about it. I do find Ping Pong very entertaining though.

You can't see it right now, but I'm definitely reading this thread as I strut around my room with underwear on my head screaming "FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT"

Actually, forget I said that.

I bet the best driver in the crappiest car would kick your ass (if you were in) in the best car.

On the original subject- it has nothing to do with tennis being boring or not. I bet a lot of Americans think soccer is boring and that isn't stopping the rest of the world. Furthermore, look at golf. Twenty years ago it was a boring rich man's game. Along comes Tiger and exposure to mass media and abracadabra, golf is popular.
