Why isn't Cool n Quiet working for me?
I have an Abit KN8 Ultra (Socket 939) with an AMD X2 3800+ (Dual Core).
I enabled CNQ in the bios (Auto or Disabled are the only 2 options.)
I also set my power scheme to minimal power management.
My CPU just doesn't want to throttle down when i'm not doing anything.

Other information: I have it overclocked to 2.6GHz at ~1.5V. I know it is probably best not to enable CNQ, but a lot of the times my CPU is barely in use and I can still disable it before I game.
I downloaded and installed this file: AMD Athlon? 64/FX Processor Driver for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 Version (x86 and x64 exe) 1.3.2.16
Am using CPU-Z to see if it would throttle down. In the past with another CPU it would throttle down, I think it was an Opteron 165.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

I couldn't get mine to work with win 2k, until the manufacturer came up with a bios update. I would email asus to see if they can help you.

Ah, I have an Abit motherboard and the bios I have is the latest one. I did get Cool N Quiet to work with an Opteron 165 (I believe) on this board so I do know that Cool N Quiet works.
It seems like Abit isn't really doing anymore bios updates with my motherboard as the lastest one was BIOS 19 Released Date: 2006-05-16.

Have you enabled dual core support in the BIOS if it has it? You may want to load default settings in the BIOS and then set everything again.

Have you installed the AMD driver?
Have you installed the AMD optimizer?

My motherboard (Asrock dual SATA 2) sets the core voltage to automatic if I enable cool & quiet in the BIOS. It will keep it there even when the CPU is under load. So, I cannot use cool & quiet unless I am happy with default core voltage. But, I am not since I need a higher core voltage for overclocking. So, I do not use cool & quiet.

You can't run C&Q if you change your core voltage from stock in the BIOS. That 1.5V setting is what is blocking it. If you have an "Overvolt by x%" type setting, use that instead with the stock v-core.

Yea I was thinking perhaps it was something to do with the voltage and the BIOS.
Unfortunately I don't have an Overvolt setting so i'll just stick with no CNQ.

Yea I just did the AMD optimizer and resetted the bios. Resetting the bios did allow CNQ to function, but after putting the settings back it didn't allow it.
