I think Chinatown in NYC gets school off on Chinese New Year. Many businesses close too for days. Well, my uncle did at least. So he's down here with us now 😛

In China they ONLY celebrate Chinese holidays. In America, where everyone is free and given equal opportunity, the chinese ethnicity should be allowed to celebrate their holiday just as every other race is allowed to celebrate theirs.

Nobody said you couldnt celebrate it. Why do you feel the need to have it recognized by the Federal Government?

Is China going nationally recognize July the Fourth? I think not.

But Ill bet they Celebrate the piss out of chairman Maos birthday. Should we celebrate that to while we are at it? Quit your crying and celebrate you Holiday in a country that will let you celebrate anything you want so long as you arent breaking any local state or federal laws that were VOTED ON BY THE PEOPLE, not forced upon them like those laws in China

live with a cut on my record. because of that, im planning to go unfourtantely.

Nobody give a red rats ass if you miss a day of school. Its very expalinable....

New York State is at least 10% Jewish. Jewish people in NYS lobbied the state government to have Jewish holidays recognized.

I'm guessing NYS is maybe 2% Chinese. From the responses on this thread, and from my own experiences living in New York, nobody else gives a sh|t about Chinese New Years. You can feel free to lobby the state government, but they will probably laugh at you.

If you dislike it so much, you can always go back to China.

The government always adds new holidays, but you never hear about them repealing old ones. The federal government does not want to add any more national holidays (especially ones that so few people care about). There are too many national holidays as it is, and it is increasing the cost of doing business, particularly in the public sector where everyone gets a day off.
