Carbonyl, don't assume that the US has humans far superior to any other humans on earth, some russian guy could just as easily say that russians can dominate the fields of soccer because of that whole blood doping/steroid thing back in the days of the cold war and the olympics.....
If Olympic basketball is an indication we do. And it's exactly the advertising that SKY refered and huge well feed popluation why this is so. Look where the fastest humans in the world live and the biggest and stongest. Even if they were prviously foreign they come here and become Americans. This is a joke right? You really think these soccer players could stand up to any professional American football team athletically? Not only are the americans bigger, stronger and faster at every position they would have a huge buget to train on if we made soccer a priority. Take at look at who dminates the summer games sometime and they ae all amateurs except for basketball.

Wow, you're so patriotic and full of sh$t ... from what you said, basically you just claim that US is the best in everything and every other nations in the world, some 5.7 billion of people are fools for liking football (soccer) and all other atheletes are weak in every standard compare to US .. what an ass!
I enjoyed American Football, but I wonder why its called football because all the action seems to use hands??

wow, toolbox thread here!

soccer players aren't wimps, they pretend to be hurt all the time in order to get the call - it may be lame and it may be p@ssy, but its NOT because they actually do get hurt all those times. jeese man, if you still think soccer is a "lite" sport after watching any of the cup games this year, then you are either clueless or exhibiting a clear bias that is distorting your perception of reality akin to the kind that allows 89# bag-of-bones women with eating disorders to look in the mirror and still see someone fat and bulging!

As for guys just standing around, this is even more on crack: soccer players are among the best conditioned athletes in the world as they normally play the entire 90 minute game w/ little to no breaks - which explains why most of them are small and lean. There was a study done on a female soccer player at NC whose heart-rate never dropped below 150 or 160 during the entire 90 min match. Crazy. More hard running goes on in a world level soccer match than some other sports see in an entire season.

understanding the rules does not mean you understand the game.

Carbonyl - just stop. stop. stop talking. reason is a sharp tool and novices tend to cut themselves. your ignorant nationalistic narcissism and your jeuvenile discourse is giving me a headache.

Football is a great game - I played it and I love it. Same with soccer. Only some kind of shortsighted, imbecile child thinks for some reason that there needs to be a rivalry between these sports, as they are so entirely different.
Indeed "better athletes" is so vauge as to be nearly meaningless.
Are pro football players typcially stronger than pro soccer players? Sure!
Are Soccer players almost universally better conditioned? Absolutely!
Are soccer players typically faster? Generally yes (consider that MOST football players don't have to run much and are big and heavy!).
What critera for "athleticism" will you weight more than the others? I'm certainly stronger and "faster"(sprinter) than many world class distance runners, does that mean I'm a better athlete?

Don't be a tool. We don't dominate at Basketball b/c Amercians are somehow inherently "more athletic" than people from other countries - if that were true we would completely mop up in T/F. In sport, like anything else, there is an advantage to institutional heritage. We've played basketball longer and with more passion than the rest of the world, thus we have an edge. Canada/Soviet Block have played hockey longer and w/ more devotion than we have, thus they have an edge. Most of the rest of the world has played soccer longer and with more dedication than we have, thus they tend to kick our @ss. <shrug>
What do you really expect? We won't really be a serious contender in soccer until it becomes more engrained into our sports landscape and until more people really devote themselves to it. Not because other countries are inherently better than us, but simply because they have more invested in it than we do.

You do realize of course it's of exteme benefit we, the US, do not play soccer and our best athletes play sports such as American football, baseball, and basketball rather than mop te floor with you in soccer. If players such as Natron Means, Jerry Rice and Micheal Jordan were played Soccer you would never score a goal let alone ever win another world cup (aka US cup). So intead of bitchin' you should be very greatful and continue you riotous play.

Is it me or you're just just being an ignorant fool thinking that there's no life outside US and US is superior to every other country??

Soccer involves more than just running and kicking the ball around.

Soccer is popular only because its one of the only sports where the US hasnt kicked the world's ass (yet). Once we win this year and show that are in total domination, I predict that soccer will lose its popularity and something else will take up its slack. Perhaps curling. :)

1...2...3...4 i declare a flame war....oh wait what am i saying :D

Carbonyl,
-the fastest/longest runners are mostly Africans
-those Australian rugby guys are HUGE, have you see them? that destroys the 'American super strength' theory
-the best hockey players are from Russia and Canada
-the best basketball team is American only becuase the US is pretty much the only country who actually plays basketball
-steroided communists always win weight lifting and swimming events

too bad there isn't a mix between football and rugby......like rugby with pads or something lol.
inner city kids in the US play basketball instead of soccer

In my opinion, I feel it is more fun to play futbol than watching it. Just like baseball or sex. :)

Unlike NBA, NHL, MLB, and any other US Leagues...

when they say world cup... they really mean the world... not just some states or US and Canada.

it's a world wide sports.

and unlike any other sports, all you need is a ball to play... and two goals.(but at non-professional level, two standing trees would do)
