why is world cup so popular?

soccer may be fun to play but it's boring as hell to watch. have you actually seen it on TV? they just sort of stand around most of the time and most scores end like 0-0 or 0-1 or whatever.

why do so many people watch it?

it is boring to you because you dont understand it. You dont have to score to make a game exciting, soccer is all about beautitful plays and team work. people needs to appreciate the acutal game not the score.

It might have something to do with the fact that football (soccer) is the biggest sport in the world.
And I mean the world outside of the US, which actually do exist.

actually i DO know the rules of soccer, it's very similar to hockey but there's more penalty shots and they throw the ball in from the corner. it is a really slow game though, they kick it around a bit then you see 2 people running for the ball then some guy falls and pretends that he is hurt just so the other guy gets a yellow card.

I love to watch and play soccer. I think the best part of my first year of college was watching the world cup with some of my buddies. We were yelling so loud it woke up the building administrator from the lobby

You do realize of course it's of exteme benefit we, the US, do not play soccer and our best athletes play sports such as American football, baseball, and basketball rather than mop te floor with you in soccer. If players such as Natron Means, Jerry Rice and Micheal Jordan were played Soccer you would never score a goal let alone ever win another world cup (aka US cup). So intead of bitchin' you should be very greatful and continue you riotous play.

1. Just cause they can play some wussie sport decently doesn't mean they can do well in other crappy sports.
2. It's more that soccer doesn't have a commercial break every 3 minutes that keeps it from becoming a succes in the States. You are owned by advertising companies.

you do have to admit that soccer is just full of wimps though. oh i fell on my side while i was running i think i'll start crying so that dude who was nowhere near me gets a card. RUGBY, now there is a man's game. i sort of know the rules for the most part but it is very interesting to watch because it brings together the things of being abour strength like football, has long distances to go like soccer and it's continuous action like hockey.

Carbonyl, don't assume that the US has humans far superior to any other humans on earth, some russian guy could just as easily say that russians can dominate the fields of soccer because of that whole blood doping/steroid thing back in the days of the cold war and the olympics.....

I don't think that success in one sport can translate to success in all sports. Michael Jordan didn't exactly tear up baseball when he tried it out. Soccer has a different set of skills that you have to master.

If Olympic basketball is an indication we do. And it's exactly the advertising that SKY refered and huge well feed popluation why this is so. Look where the fastest humans in the world live and the biggest and stongest. Even if they were prviously foreign they come here and become Americans. This is a joke right? You really think these soccer players could stand up to any professional American football team athletically? Not only are the americans bigger, stronger and faster at every position they would have a huge buget to train on if we made soccer a priority. Take at look at who dminates the summer games sometime and they ae all amateurs except for basketball.

And seriously, americans are not as good as you think at soccer. They are FAST..but basically, that's it.

YOu check out hte kings of soccer and check out theirs passes. HTey play a close-game, dribbling between players, showing skill, not JUST speed.
