Where's info on the WMP9 bar? I'm curious......

I already have WMP9 installed, is it an option within the program?

No Volume Control? Yes it does, use Global hotkeys.
Too big? minimize to system tray, use global hotkeys to do everything. The only space is used for the playlist, so just size it down as you see fit.
No Easy way to go back and forth? CTRL + < & CRTL + >

Global hotkeys are your friend.

What might you be thinking that they would be prepping for? I'm be interested to know. Knowing AOL, it can't be good.

By the way, what record company do they own?

They own Warner, Atlantic, Elektra, Rhino, and some smalle rones too.

I have WinAmp 2.81 but I have to admit, Windows Media Player 9 is just as streamlined... uses VERY LITTLE memory. Which is amazing for a Microsoft product. My WMP9 uses only 4 megs of memory! It is also more functional than WinAmp and has a VERY cool docking feature on your windows taskbar.

Winamp3 doesn't seem too bloated to me, provided you use a non-bloated skin. The start up time is way too long, but other than that I don't see a problem. Doesn't affect my performance in games if I have it open.

I dl'd the beta for winamp 3 over a year ago. It was buggy----and the only thing I liked on it was the skin for some super model that wouldn't work on 2.x. I used it a while---but not long---it was buggy, and it sucked. I really really didn't like the new playlist--

WMP---I still use the older versions---pre 7.0. MP3s alone I use QCD player which is pretty good----but damn.....foobar seems pretty much exactly what I was looking for.

Give me MP3 playback and plugins for other formats, and take the Grx stuff and other stuff as foobar. Thanks for the link to that.

You a;; should try WMP9... the docking feature on the taskbar makes it worth it alone... and the fact it uses 0-1% CPU and 4 megs of memory total is quite nice as well. That even less than winamp 2.

I like Winamp3, the MMD 3 skin is sweet looking. It might be a bit big, but it's slick! I'd still use 2.x but 3.x has the best skin ever (Hong Kong Phooey!) I need to get off my lazy ass and make a H.K.P. Litestep theme

that is the best cartoon...

I've read on their site that they are going to discontinue Winamp 3 series and the 2 series. They are going to merge the best features of both versions and call it Winamp 5. They realize they made a huge mistake the 3 version and are supposedly going to fix it. One of the things they will keep is the skins for the 3 series.
